Painting in Watercolor - Classic Techniques 28 Jun 2000
By sean yore - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book provides a basic structure for traditional painting in watercolor. It includes the materials (brushes, paint and paper), the history and elementary (classical) techniques for painting. It has an interesting presentation about combining ink, gouache and watercolor paint. The book also presents techniques for watercolor sketches out of the studio. Gwynn has chapters on landscape, portrait, still-life and animal painting which are terse but cover the basic technique. In addition, there is coverage on mounting, framing and exhibiting - topics seldom covered in recent watercolor books. The only drawback to this book is the lack of depth for techniques (such as figure painting) and some of the contemporary techniques (such as using with acylics, airbrush, ink-jet, etc. ) which is due to the breadth of the subject that this book covers. In summary - I found this book a classic text for basic techniques of watercolor painting. I recommend this book for any beginner.

Complete and expert guide to the art of watercolor 18 April 2006
By Joanna Daneman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book is worth it for the paintings alone--some stunning work including a boxer taking a flying fall, a fisherman casting a fly (clearly, this artist likes the dynamic and kinetic in her artwork.) There is a stunning Tuscany villa also. The book goes from landscape to portrait to figural including nude, ending with still life. Framing and mounting is discussed at the end. While not a new book, this is complete and seems never to age--a classic indeed. Highly recommended.
