Product Description

Product Description

To look at John Agnew's work is to enter the mysterious and enchanting world of a forest floor, mountainous cliffs and crags, the heights of a rain forest or the surface of a hidden pond. Each painting draws you in to its unique environment. The lifelike environments Agnew has been so extremely successful in creating in his well-known murals he now brings to his acrylic paintings as well. In this book, Agnew shares his secret techniques about how to create those special atmospheres, textures and creatures by controlling the light, color, point of view and design of his painting. The book is filled with mini-demonstrations showing readers how to paint all of the above, as well as a full demo and techniques on painting murals.

5.0 out of 5 stars A secret world in its' own right, 10 Oct 2003
By A Customer
A beautiful book. The author's enthusiasm for the subject matter radiates from every stunning illustration, but this is not just a coffee table book. Practical sections take you step by step through capturing the natural world in paint, with extremely useful tips on creating effects of sand, rock, bark, grass and various animal skins. Any budding artist would be delighted with this.

4.0 out of 5 stars An amazing book, 29 April 2009

I have always looked at this type of art and wondered how it was done, well now I know, this is a great book with step by step guides as to how to go about producing this type of illustration.
I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in this type of art but you do need to know what you are doing, it is not a guide for beginners, however , that said it is a wonderful book full of well produced illustrations and is an inspiration to us all. I greatly enjoyed reading the book and painting some of the illustrations for myself.
