An excellent resource and reference book for modellers looking to finish their builds to high standards. Lots of useful tips and methods on how to achieve very good finishing results with plenty of close up colour photographs accompanying each point to help you on your way.

The author takes as his starting point the painting of 3 model aircraft and 3 model armoured vehicles and works through each one detailing the techniques used at every stage to produce brilliantly decorated kits. There's also a brief section on figure painting and a useful kit list at the end. There are excellent photos and the text is clear, conversational and well laid out, with good details of equipment used and several different methods of acheiving the required effect shown across the various examples.
The attention to detail applied to each example is staggering and the time devoted to each one must be immense, so my only reservation is that the commitment required to produce results as good as those shown in the book might be beyond the resources of the casual modeller.

Painting and Finishing Techniques (Osprey Modelling)
Basic modelling skills are something which with practice can be learned fairly quickly, however the skill that most modellers struggle with is the art of painting and finishing or weathering their kits, the book that iam reviewing today is book 45 in the Osprey modelling range titled painting and finishing techniques by Gary Edmunson. This is a reference book that any modeller should have in there own reference library, it is just as useful to the beginner as to the skilled modeller alike,from the begining the book describes basic fundamentals in painting and finishing, these are also accompanied with full colour photographs and the types, colours and numbers of paint used in the technique. The book covers differing paint finishes, painting and finishing both aircraft and armoured vehicles through to figures and presentation. The author writes using plain and easy to understand lauguage so that there is no mistaking the techniques that he is describing and again every step is accompanied by full colour photographs, i love this book and it has already come in incredibly useful on certain projects that iam working on i rate this book very highly and it is a must have to any one interested in scale modelling.

This book helps the modeller improve their skills by making an ordinary model into something rather special using, in some cases, simple techniques to more complex methods.
