5.0 out of 5 stars Complements the software better than the manual 25 Mar 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Having used Paint Shop Pro 9 and Ken McMahan's book for that version for many years, I'd recently upgraded to PSP X6.

This new book does for X6 what my old one did for version 9. Want to improve the sky? This book tells you how.

Want to take Uncle Joe out of the picture? This book tells you how.

It's packed with ideas, instructions, illustrations - I could go on and on.

As an enthusiastic amateur photographer, I can't think of a better book to help me get the best out of this software.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good resource, but a bit thin, I think. 3 May 2014

I've been using Corel's Paintshop Pro for years and there is a real need for books and tutorials. This book is a big help but there seem to be gaps in the coverage. I'd like to see more photo info and less 'hobby' stuff. All in all, a much needed and worthwhile book.

Easy to read, good format, clear instructions, and good visuals. This book would make a great text for teaching too.

I am new to post processing. I bought Paintshop pro x6 because x5 came with my Canon 60D and I had already explored it a little. When I upgraded to the Canon 70D I decided to upgrade to Paintshop x6. From my inexperienced perspective it seems to be a good product but I somewhat regret that I did not give Adobe Lightroom or photoshop more consideration because most of the instructional material available free online is geared to those. That said, this book has great promise. It is not an easy read but it seems to be in depth enough to teach Paintshop to me. I might update this review as I progress through the book but so far, so good.

This book is a valuable reference for photographers. It's powerful software. But I give the book only 3 stars because the photos of templates and palettes don't show clearly what the author is explaining. The font is so tiny you need a magnifying class to read it. It's a shame the publisher tried to save a few bucks in publishing this important material.
