This tale of a four old girl, her parents and her 'babysitter' draws you through a riveting sequence of events and takes you on a compelling rollercoaster ride. The principal characters are developed well as the story unfolds and it very quickly becomes a gripping read.
After a few chapters, I did a complete double take as it transferred to what appeared to be an entirely different story, this time about a rogue military operation. The two stories are then skilfully brought together becoming an absorbing storyline. It really was a page turner that had me completely engrossed. I don't want to go into any detail of the plot as it will spoil the enjoyment of other readers.
A short quote from the book really does sum it up for me:
'all great stories begin with a bad beginning, before the characters rise from ashes - overcome great odds, endure great tragedy. All leading towards a mercurial rise toward a triumphant end.'
The only exception was it did not have a bad beginning!
I had never come across this author before and later discovered this is the first book he has had published.
I'll certainly look forward to enjoying more of his work in the future.
Try it - you won't regret it!

Great read! 2 Jan 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I must admit, I only downloaded this book because it was free. I'm glad I did. I started reading it and couldn't stop. The story is great, characters great - not too heavy a read, not too deep that you get lost in the plot.

Hard to place what type of book this is; a bit crime, some thriller, some romance... it had a bit of everything. All in all a very entertaining story and I look forward to more from the same writer - even if I have to pay next time!

Painless? Not quite! 23 Mar 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I have to admit, this actually isn't the worst book I've ever read, but it was far from the best!
There was quite a good story there, that in the right hands could have been developed & handled effectively to make a gripping story. As it is, I happen to be in possession of my very own 4 year old, and CIPA or no CIPA, they do not talk like Carolyn! What the other reviewers have said about spelling and grammar is correct, however reviewing a book you haven't finished isn't really fair.
I think for a free book, it's not too bad, but don't download it expecting Faulks or Barnes. It's a bit of a popcorn story (it'd make a good film).
