5.0 out of 5 stars Contains an overlooked track- do not miss, 22 Mar 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: A Pain That I'm Used to [2 Track CD] (Audio CD)
This should be a rather insignificant single release from PLAYING THE ANGEL but it contains a B-side of absolute genius which should not under any circumstances be missed by fans. NEWBORN must rank as one of Depeche Mode's finest songs. Akin in style to songs of the Violator era but heavy on analogue synths and extremely loud, Newborn takes us back to the classic Depeche Mode sound, albeit a heavier version with a modern twist. It contains a stunning joint vocal performance from Martin Gore and Dave Gahan and heart wrenching changes in chord.
How a song of this quality could have been overlooked for the album is beyond me. Makes you wonder what else they've chosen not to release!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant B track - don't miss, 6 Nov 2006
This review is from: A Pain That I'm Used to [2 Track CD] (Audio CD)
This single is worth buying just for the track, 'Newborn', which is an astonishingly great song that, apparently, didn't get onto the recent album. Yet 'Playing the Angel' and 'Lilian' did. Go figure.

'Newborn' has a feel of 'Violator' production, but Gahan's voice has never sounded so assured, so emotive or so powerful over a great driving beat. A truely excellent track which shouldn't be left out of anyone's Depeche Mode collection.

I loved de B-side (newborn) included in this single. The lyrics are great and the sound is amazing. For all the international buyers, the shiping method used by amazon is simply great. I got my package sooner than I expected. The single will delight DM fans!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pain That I'm Used To, 12 Jan 2006
By Bjorn Viberg - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A Pain That I'm Used to [2 Track CD] (Audio CD)
Pain That I'm Used To~ Depeche Mode is a single that sounds like Depeche Mode took inspiration from a plethora of bands such as Skinny Puppy, Nitzer Ebb and a bit from Frontline Assembly. The guitar sound used on this track sounds allot like the guitar sound that Skinny Puupy uses on their albums. As for the Nitzer Ebb connection that is the drum sound and the keyboard sounds sound like they borrowed quite heavily from both Skinny Puppy and Fronline Assembly. Gahan sounds amazing and the lyrics are stupendous as always without being to obtuse or convuluted. This single gets 5 ouf of 5 and shows that Depeche Mode is truly a band for the ages.
