Book Description

7 Mar 2008 0443103364 978-0443103360 1
This book describes the underlying mechanisms and management of pain. It is aimed primarily at undergraduates who traditionally have received somewhat fragment teaching of this important problem within their curriculum.. This text would bring the elements of pain training together in one place and improve their understanding. It would also help anybody in the healthcare profession to develop an understanding of pain before moving on to clinical practice or more advanced training. The chapters have a logical sequence building from the basic sciences, introducing possible interventions before addressing assessment and more detailed therapeutic interventions. There are scenarios later in the book to bring together the earlier concepts. This will allow the text to be revisited as appropriate throughout the training years or be used as a reference later on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pain Management for students! 3 Nov 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is aimed at medical and nursing students and covers everything from the basics of what pain is and how it can be defined. To the types of pain experienced by patients to dealing with these in a clinical setting.

The book includes a list of abbreviations which are extremely helpful as you may come across these whilst in a practice environment. The book also has a list of definitions of different sorts of pain and explain them in an easy to understand manner.

The book is split into two sections, it covers what pain is and where and when to intervene and leads on to patient asessment and how to manage their pain successfully. This being very helpful as it allows the reader to understand how to put theory into practice and use it for future use when in practice.

The book also includes information on the types of medication used in pain relief, their side affects and dosage. However, although this is very useful and explained in depth I would recommend that perhaps a medication / drugs book was used to gain more information on other medications that may interact with pain relief.

This is a very good book for student nurses and medical students and would be very good for anybody that wishes to learn more about pain relief and management and how to use this developed knowledge in practice.
