2.0 out of 5 stars Preaching and padding spoil an excellent story 14 Dec 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This could have been a five star book. As others have mentioned the religous aspects of the book are totally out of sync with the story, its almost like watching television and you get adverts, I just didn't get the relevance of them. Several times I almost deleted the book becuase of it which would have been a great pity as otherwise it is an excellent book.
The other thing that I found puzzling was (I think three chapters) that were about individual characters when they go on home leave. It seemed to me that the author had agreed to write a set number of words and used these chapters to pad the book out.
If the book is free, download it, skip the padding and adverts and you will find it an excellent and highly enjoyable book. I personally will not pay money for other books in the series due to the advert and padding which is a pity as this really is a very enjoyable book otherwise.

Nothing like the tv series of the same name, this series of NCIS books is full of 'in the field' adventure and excitement. The characters are well drawn and well presented and the plot is gripping and exciting. Yes, there are strong Christian undertones to the plot, but this does not detract from the key action; however I can see that it might put some atheists and agnostics off. In my opinion, though, it just goes to make the key characters more plausible, showing their weaknesses as well as their strengths.
My only gripe is that i wish the editors would take more care before publishing a text that is flawed with the typographical errors that make it tough to read. Omitting short lines of dialogue and replacing them with reversed commas is not funny ~ nor is finding the word okay written as
Please, Editors, read the work through properly before publishing it on kindle ~ especially if you want us to pay top dollar for the sequels!

3.0 out of 5 stars Paid in Blood 24 April 2011

I would have rated this as 5 star if it wasn't for the over the top references to God throughout the book. It was a fast paced thriller, that linked together well and had me hooked.

I decided to read this book, because I enjoyed watching the television series. It took me a while before I really began to enjoy reading this. I will try another one of the series, but definitely not straight away.

“That’s what this part of your life is about, Will. Getting through it. Planning and doing what you can, but relying on faith to get you through the hard times. Believing. Let God be your compass. Your life is out there. Happiness is out there. You’ve just got to let him direct you to those things. God will give you what you need, Will. He always does. Most people just don’t realize that.” "e;

“It’s not confidence, Will,” Frank stated. “It’s faith. You can’t base faith on fact or figures or past experiences. You can’t base it on training or understanding. It comes out of acceptance. It boils down to trusting God.” "e;
