5.0 out of 5 stars For more info on this book - please read below 15 Dec 2004
Format:Paperback
The blurb on this book is non-existent, as the author (!) - I just want to give fuller details. It is a book/CD for Primary teachers (KS1 & 2). The first part offers a wealth of poetry writing workshops for use in and out of the Literacy Hour; there are tips from many top children's poets on crafting and drafting poems - and advice on writing all forms of poetry from rhyming and free verse to haikus to kennings and raps; much time is spent covering rhythm and rhyme, imagery and exploring expressive language. The second part offers an anthology of modern and traditional poems and gives details on how to run poetry performance (ie speaking & listening) workshops; along with this second part is a CD of performance poetry - 4 poems by the author (that's me!) and 5 by an Oxfordshire Primary school. The emphasis throughout Page to Stage is very much on CREATIVITY.
I work in Primary schools all over the UK giving poetry performances/workshops and Page to Stage is the book version of my work in schools. I hope you enjoy it. Any feedback via my publisher - David Fulton - or a review here at Amazon would be much appreciated - if you don't think it is worth 5 stars please do say so!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Performance Poetry! 1 July 2006
Format:Paperback
I've just used this excellent book and CD with a Year 5/6 class to do a unit of work on performance poetry. As a PGCE student, I found the suggestions and information invaluable.

My class loved 'Fuss Fuss Fuss - The Goldilocks Rap' and were soon suggesting their own rap-speak and actions to develop their performance. Having the CD to play to the children was also really useful as they were able to hear what the rap could sound like and discuss what they liked and how they might do it differently before they started.

I would definately recommend this book to anyone teaching poetry, particularly with KS2 children.
