With Strictly For Grown Ups becoming such a success, it did not take long for both Decca Records and Paddy Roberts to consider a follow up album. According to the original sleeve notes, The somewhat low and twisted songs on this record are the mutterings of the leader of the Victorian beat generation the original frustrated old man. The musical arrangements, which are the best thing on the record, are by Dennis Wilson, who also plays the piano, conducts the orchestra and sweeps up the studio. It would probably have been better if he s also sung the songs. Despite this endorsement, Tries Again was another Top 20 success.

Format:Audio CD
I have waited a long time for this album to be re-released on CD and I am delighted that the wait is finally over. The stand-out track and by far the best known is "The Belle Of Barking Creek" and it is almost worth buying the CD for just this track. However, it would be unfair to overlook the same light and slightly camp humorous style of Paddy Roberts delivery in all 13 tracks on this album. With a hint of Noel Coward and an equally keen sense of fun in his songs, although from a bygone age, it remains an album to make you smile.
