I have to admit it... I'm in tears here while I'm writing this. Just listened to the first track again and both heart and soul were filled with such emotion that I couldn't stop the tears. Might be a little too sentimental but I need to be honest. Classical music has been always a very visceral matter to me. Either I feel it or not regardless the recording being considered the best by experts. If I'm not "touched" while I listen then there's nothing to do with that particular recording.

The other works by Pachelbel were unknown to me as was Fasch as composer. I like the other pieces here; they are superbly played and recorded. Both symphonies by Fasch being a revelation!

But the star in this CD is Pachelbel's Canon without doubt. Best recording EVER that I heard of.

OK, the piece has become somewhat hackneyed, but when played properly - such as here - it is magnificent. If it were the only piece on the disc, it would still be worth 5 stars. But no, there's more. You get Maurice André at the peak of his powers playing a Fasch trumpet concerto with the astounding fluidity and tone that was exclusively André's. This is not great music in the B Minor Mass/St. Matthew scheme of things, but it is marvellous listening.

Please note there are two versions of Pachebel's Canon by the Paillard Chamber Orchestra - also note this is the best (not that their later version is bad). This version is a little slower in tempo, which actually suits the piece better. I first heard this, would you believe, on Radio One in the late 60's, fell in love with it and have enjoyed it ever since (I had to travel in to London's West End to find an import copy - no Amazon or internet in those days). Yes, the rest of the album is good also and Fasch's Trumpet Concerto is well worth a listen, but, you will be buying it for the premier version of a much recorded classic.

I bought this CD for the well known Pachelbel Canon, which is excellent on this recording, together with the lesser known Pacelbel pieces.
In my ignorance I had never heard of Johann Fasch, but in view of the modest price for the recording I was not bothered if the Fasch pieces were not to my liking.
I was pleased to find that the Trumpet Concerto, and the two Symphonies by him are excellent, beautiful works for this great period.
This is a composer deserving of much wider recognition, and exposure than at present.
Try this bargain price offering, and see if you agree. You have nothing to loose at this price, and may be you will expand your knowledge of Composers of this era, as I have done.

I bought this CD to play as background music for guests arriving at my daghter's wedding. The first track 'Cannon in D' was played while the register was signed, then the CD was played again as the guests left the ceremony. Perfect. Highly recommended.

So pleased with this. I came across this via a phone call to Age UK who have it as their 'put on hold' music. I was enchanted as I have heard the music before but failed to remember the name but loved it. I must be one of the rare customers whyo actually asked the chap dealing with my phone call, to put me on hold again so I could hear more. Afterwards he told me the title and name of the composer and I immediately ordered. Oh bliss! now I can listen without it costing more money for longer phone calls. Item and service was excellent. well done

I'm new to classical music so I don't have much of a benchmark for the music and arrangement. BUT ... I can vouch that this album is a high quality recording - very clear and clean (the sound clips do not do it justice).
I bought it primarily for Canon D - which does not disappoint. But I now have a wealth of other beautiful music from Pachelbel to enjoy.
