1.0 out of 5 stars Could Have Been Excellent 12 Sep 2011
    By Harken
Good things about the Siesta Flow are the reasonable sound quality and the concept of a clock radio which will receive FM, DAB and Internet Radio. Receiver sensitivity on FM and DAB is adequate if you are in a strong signal area.

Unfortunately, the overall implementation leaves much to be desired. It does not seem to have occurred to the designer that the user will quite often want to operate this bedside radio in the dark. The touch controls used to navigate the menus are not backlit and are close together, which makes this impossible. If listening to FM, reaching out to alter the volume will change the station tuning if your hand goes anywhere near the front panel. Changing stations, even if using pre-sets or favourites, is a fiddly process requiring full attention and a light. There are 36 pre-sets and they are all present in the menu list, even when empty. The cursor defaults to pre-set 1 rather than the current station, and has to be stepped to the required station and selected - you cannot step up and down through the stations in the normal way. What really sums up the amount of thought which has gone into this product is that you cannot delete stations from the pre-set list without doing a factory reset! Yes, really! Changing Internet station is a similar process, except that favourite stations are set up on line, so they can be edited. I found that when switching back to Internet mode, the station last selected failed to reconnect until it was reselected from the menu.

It would not take much to make this an excellent radio, but it looks as if whoever was responsible for developing it lost interest half way through the process.

2.0 out of 5 stars Works OK, when it wants to!!! 6 Sep 2010
    Verified Purchase
This works fine most of the time. However, the annoying (& I mean really annoying) is the auto-updating of the firmware. So far this has occurred twice (in about a month). The problem is this. When the auto-update happens the radio deletes it's current firmware prior to downloading the new one. So, if it fails, the radio is unusable.

First time it failed, so the radio was useless. All I got was a message on the display "USB Upgrade (RelI) - Waiting for upgrade, press any key to exit". According to Pure this was due to the auto-upgrade failing. The only option was to do this manually via my computer. But, the cable required to do this isn't provided. Eventually obtained the correct cable & followed the instructions from Pure's website. They are quite easy to follow.

Second time & this is happening now, STILL. when I switched it on it gave the usual "resuming from low power standby" message. And that's it!!! It's been in this state for almost 4 hours now. Slowly downloading the firmware across my wireless. BTW: this is with an excellent wireless signal & over 11Mb broadband speed. I'm checking my router now, from work, & it's still downloading the update, absolutely useless.

So, if you want a radio to listen to when YOU want & not when the radio wants you to. Then DO NOT buy this. There is now way to stop it auto-updating (this is from Pure themselves). & if it is unsuccessful then the radio is no more than a paper-weight. There is an option to restore it to it's factory default. However, the radio has to be ON to utilise this. It can't be done after a failed auto-update.

Further Update: On occasion (rare, but not rare enough) the radio locks up. I've woken up a few times to see that the time says it is in the middle of the night, but it's daylight outside & I've overslept. this can be easily resolved by switching off, then back on again. Unfortunately you're not then taken back in time to when the radio should have woken you up!

This radio sounds great for such a small package and the ability to be able to stream mp3 files from your home network makes this a great buy. The radio reception in our bedroom is very poor and my main reason for buying this was to improve the signal by tuning into our home wi-fi network. Connecting to our wi-fi network was easy, however, the set-up of the internet radio stations was not intuitive and the instructions provided (both in the box and online) are woefully inadequate. To use the internet radio you need a wi-fi network (Note: This radio does not have an ethernet socket) and access to a computer to create an account on the Flow website. Once the account has been confirmed, the next step is to set up a favourite's folder on the Flow website and select the radio stations you wish to listen to. Once this is done enter the code provided (via email) into the radio and away you go. Despite the drawn out set up process, I would recommend the Pure Siesta Flow without hesitation as in my opinion it appears to be a much better build quality than the more expensive Roberts Streamtime wi-fi clock radio.

    2.0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Wi-Fi Performance 18 Jun 2010
I have had this radio for some time now. I wish I'd sent it back.

I wanted to use it for the Internet Radio, but as with a previous review I have the same problems becasue the radio just can't keep a stable wi-fi connection. I have two other wi-fi radios, a Logik and a Tranciva, and when the Siesta Pure drops out the other two do not, even when they are all the same distance away (about 6 feet).

Very disappointed, and I wish I'd took notice of an earlier review that said....

"The Wifi connection was also inadequate where it failed to hold a steady connection to my WiFi hub from the same room where I have no problems using my laptop to stream HD TV from BBC iPlayer."
