I bought this item for my study (to listen to a bit of DAB Classical music while studying).
Now, I have an entire library of iTunes songs and of course you can get radio online. But it's not the same coming from a computer/laptop. So getting a radio was the only way to go, and I felt like splashing out on something which would give a good quality reception.
Within about 60 seconds of receiving this item, it was unpacked, plugged in, had autotuned itself and was ready to run. The sound is great, it's a fantastic design which doesn't draw too much attention to itself. Decent size, can go relatively loud if you want it to. Nothing major to complain about.
I've given it five stars because as well as providing excellent sound quality, it's very easy to use with an intuitive menu layout and useful central rotating (and inwards-pressing knob). It does exactly what I wanted it to do and it's money well spent in my mind.
There are two or three very minor annoyances though. One - the volume has a wide range and has about 15 different levels (selected using the knob). But towards the bottom, i.e. between 0 (silent) and 1, it's quite a distinctive gap, relatively speaking. Level 1 is of course very quiet, but I would have liked it to be a bit quieter. Maybe in a kitchen you wouldn't notice this (or need such a low level), but alone in a study it would be nicer to have a bit more control over how quiet the quietest volume level is. Two - I have this radio sat about 80cm in front of me to my right on my desk. As such, most of the time I'm leaning over to press buttons. I wouldn't say the buttons are stiff, but they require some sort of pressure to press properly. Because of this, say you were to press one of the smaller buttons at the top of the U shaped layout, you'd need to use the other hand (or a finger from the same hand) to hold the radio in place. Otherwise it would simply fall over. If the buttons had been located on the top, this wouldn't be a problem. But I'm nit-picking here, it's not a major issue at all. Indeed, radios are usually left to play for hours without fiddling about. The volume button is easy to turn with a couple of fingers.
But generally speaking, it's a fantastic peice of equipment and I hope to get many years' use out of it.
