Many extra stations are available with DAB radio

Ease-Of-Use
Digital radios are much easier to use than analogue radios because they automatically search for all available stations. Once the radio has found all the available stations you just choose the one you want by name. No more trying to remember frequencies.

Wider Station Choice
With up to 55 DAB stations available in many areas, and more on the way, you’ll be spoilt for choice. As well as existing favourites like BBC radios 1-4, BBC radio 5 live, Classic FM and talkSPORT, there are also great exclusive-to-digital stations such as BBC 1Xtra, BBC 5 live Sports Extra, BBC 6 Music, BBC 7 and Planet Rock.

Digital Sound Quality
DAB is crackle-clear and hiss-free because it’s not subject to the same interference as analogue radio.

DAB Stations
There's more listening choice on DAB too. These great stations and many more are available in the UK on DAB digital radio. As DAB coverage varies, remember to check which stations are available in your area.

Very little to be negative about. Good sound, very versatile settings, the radio seems quite sensitive, even with the silly wire aerial and the CD sound is perfectly adequate to all but perfectionists. You can use headphones (proper ones, not those painful plastic things). It does what it says on the box - that's all you can ask. I also like the light-sensing display. I just hope it's reliable - I may change my mind if it breaks!

After reading other reviews I thought this product would suit my needs and I certainly wasn't dissapointed. The display brightness varies depending on the ambient lighting in the room so no more ultra bright displays lighting the room up or dim unreadable displays in the daytime. Lots of alarm options including volume preferences and being able to choose a particular DAB or FM radio station for a particular alarm rather than it waking you to the station that you listened to as you drifted off to sleep. The remote control is powerful enough to use across the room without having to 'wave your arm about' and the magnetic feature enabling you to stick the remote to side of the main unit is great so that you always know where it is when you are not using it. The system has a good sound with reasonable bass for its size and plenty for a bedside application. Its also good enough for favourite tunes that need to be listened to louder than most. I did consider the Ipod dock version but opted for this as I have lots of CDs already and quite a few MP3 CDs that show the track names etc. Given that there is also an AUX input on the front it was easy for me to buy a cheap connecting cable for my Ipod too so this is the 'best of both worlds'. Only very minor issue is that the controls on the front of the unit are not backlit and so until you remember which buttton does what it is easy to change station by accident. The remote is easier to use at night than the main controls until you get used to it. Now I have no problems at all. I have a white one that suits the room decor but having seen a black unit in a store recently I think that looks a little more classy.
Very pleased with the purchase. Don't forget to order a 3.5mm Aux connector lead so that you can choose to listen (and wake up to) your Ipod/ MP3 player aswell as DAB, FM, CD, MP3 CD.

Pros:

Great sound with little distortion from such a small unit. CD sound is clear and has plenty of bass.
DAB signal is strong and display is very clear.
Handy autotune takes hassle out of homing in on over 50 stations.

Cons:

Remote control sometimes takes a few presses to respond and has limited range.
Buttons on the radio front need a firm press to activate.

Overall a good value for money product that is well designed. Good looks and good sound too. Highly recommended.

Bought this as a present for a family member. It was bought to go in the kitchen, hence opting for the white version (not sure why the white version is cheaper than the black! Or at least it was when I bought it). The device is easy-to-use and feature packed, with all that you'd expect from a DAB tuner, and a basic CD player. I hadn't spotted on the specification that it also had an aux-in, so is futureproofed should the owner get an MP3 player. We nearly accidentally threw away the remote control, as it was tucked away in the packaging and is very small. Beware! Sound quality is excellent based on size. 4 stars, with a star off for being a bit expensive (£80 when I bought it).

I was looking to replace the mess of wires that was the hi-fi unit in our kitchen; this unit comprised a CD player, cassette player and radio. With some Heath Robinson DAB contraption using an extra plug point and further gadgetry to allow mp3 players to play!

I was desperate to find something compact, which ran off ONE plug and which would have an auxiliary access point for an mp3 player cable (we have three different mp3 players in our house - none of them iPod). Incorporated DAB radio was also high on my wish list - if the thing looked half-way decent I would also be happy. The cassette player was not an issue :)

Enter the PURE Chronos CD DAB:
Radio (DAB & FM);
CD player (which plays mp3 CDs but the random play algorithm is iffy);
Alarm Clock;
Auxiliary port for mp3 player cable (lets any mp3 play);
compact;
remote control;
stylish, and
bonus points as the unit arrived with the clock set to the right time and all the radio presets set.

The only fly in the ointment is the sound quality. The hi-fi has a fulsome, meaty sound with good bass, the Chronos is comparatively light and thin even after playing around with settings. The volume is good and is more than adequate for the room size.

Sound purists will have issues with this, but from my point of view the functionality, style and size of the PURE Chronos is marvellous.

What a treat, to be lulled to sleep by Radio 4 set on very low volume and then to be woken by a CD of my choice (currently a gentle lilting tune sung by a Bulgarain Womens Choir) at a much more appropriate volume for getting up.

It's hard to fault this machine, as it does everything it says it will, which is quite a lot. Because it has so many options though, like being able to choose different alarm volumes on several different alarms, it's a bit of a rigmarole to go through checking you've set everything correctly. All this is what I wanted though, so I can't grumble. Both Brightness and Contrast of the display can be tweeked to your hearts content and the light sensor dims it all automatically when you turn your room lights out.

This is no boom box though, don't expect a deep, rich sound. It is very clear though, far from tinny and probably better than that of many clock radios. I think the only potentially annoying thing about this machine is the very slow rising of the CD lid - press eject and then go check out your crows feet in a mirror or something - by which time, if like me you have more than a few to check out, it will have fully opened!

Delivery was wonderful - I opted for the free super-saver delivery, as there was no particular urgency. Quite unexpectedly though, it arrived at 7pm one evening, (if memory serves) 48 hours after ordering and approximately 48 hours before it was even due to be dispatched - can't fault that!

If you have to be woken by an alarm every day like me (which I'm sure has a slow ill-effect on your day/week/life), it's worth spending £80+ to be woken by calming music of your choice and have all the other advantages of this machine.

Amazon and PURE both fab!
