The easel comes in one piece, but you have to set it up for use, which is easy enough to do. The picture makes it look sturdier than it actually is, but you get what you pay for and this is quite inexpensive for what you get. Fully extended, there is a bit of wobble and the bottom rail needs to be stabilised; I'm going to use a couple of small clamps. This sounds a bit of an irritation, but you are not buying a full on studio easel costing hundreds of pounds. For what it does and at the cost charged, this is good value for money; not 5 stars, but a worthy 4. I'm using it for drawing and think it is good for A2 and you could go a bit larger in portrait, It is a bit narrow for large work in landscape, where it would lack stability in my opinion. One other good thing about it is that it doesn't take up a lot of space and is easy to move around. All-in-all, good value for money.

Excellent value for money, I bought it for my husband and he is really pleased with it.
You do need to change it around a little but very easy to do, it only involves unscrewing a couple of bolts.
Would definately advise buying it from Amazon

i'm so pleased with my new easel. It's very sturdy to take larger canvases. It was already assembled and so easy to set up.

I bought this easel because I've been doing small paintings, and wanted an something stable enought to handle bigger canvases. I'm very pleased with it so far, and would say it is good value.
It is basically solidly built, but not as heavy as some of the other easels I looked at. I've not used it for anything bigger than a 30x20in box canvas yet, it would easily hold a bigger canvas but I suspect if you wanted to do something 60x40in it would need something heavy on the base.
It comes with the sliding bar that holds the canvas upside down to keep the package size down, but there are instructions in the packaging (easily overlooked) to sort this out.
The rachet mechanism for adjusting the working height doesn't look to strong, but seems to be ok in use.
If you have low ceilings you might want to think about the height of this easel with the canvas raised to paint standing.

I bought this for my daughter, a struggling but talented and soon-to-be-famous artist, and was very impressed by the build quality and ease of use. Assembly instructions could have been clearer, but it didn't take long to figure it out.
She is very pleased and uses everyday!

I have a small studio and needed an easel for bigger canvasses that would sit stable and not tip over with pressure applied by brush or palette knife to the outer edges. This really does the job, is cheap, well made and easy as pie to assemble. No complaints here and on top of that it arrived within a few days from Germany! I'll definitely be buying again from the supplier.

I always try to be as generous as possible in my comments about products in these days of largely oriental imports - which may or may not be the case here. Ok...ish is the best I can say about this easel. The basic design is pretty good for a very light weight studio easel and will doubtless delight the hearts of many a Sunday painter. If it had been made from more substantial pieces of timber (incidentally it is beech not elm) and if the fittings had been more heavy duty and if the machining had been more accurate) it would have been worthy of five stars.

I was for ten years a professional artist and of necessity had to rely on good equipment to earn my living so a flimsy, rickety easel would have been worse than useless at that time. Indeed, in those days I made my own kit which, after heavy use and abuse, is still going strong many years later.

I think with a little work and a few modifications this easel should perform ok-ish provided it is handled with care. So - unless my experience has been atypical - if you are considering buying one of these modest items be prepared to spend time improving the fit.
