I bought one of these purely for peace of mind. I hoped I would never have to use it.
According to the box it will start anything from a motorcycle to an lorry.
I needed it for a transit minibus which had insufficient power to start off it's own battery. Ensuring it was fully charged, I connected it, switched on, and tried to start as per instructions.....nothing, it just discharged!
Eventually I used a jump lead off a spare battery and it fired up in seconds. I took the unit back and got a refund.
Today I had a flat battery as I had left the interior lights on all night. The local garage came out with one of these booster packs, I watched with amusement as a click was all that was heard and the leads began smoking. Again' jump leads and off we went.
The only use I can see for this yellow box would be for camping. The compressor to inflate the airbed, the light to see the plug where you use the 12v outlet to charge the mobile phone. Unlike a good set of jump leads, It's not something you can rely on, but I suppose it CAN start an argument.

I have a 2003 Range Rover 4.4L and even though it's obviously a challenge to start a big engine I expected this unit to do the job. It didn't. Not even at the time when the battery had enough of a charge to power door locks, lights, even the air suspension.
But it wasn't the car - it's the unit. I gave it to my friend who owns a VW Golf, but his disappointment was as big as mine when his battery was flat and this unit wouldn't start that either.
I'm not technical, but I know the unit was fully charged every time we tried it. And it didn't work at all.

I've just bought a similar "Nikkai" branded unit from Maplin, all these appear to be rebadged Steyre Electric units. Brand-new and fully charged, the "17Ah" battery only has 5.4Ah capacity (tested with a dedicated - and expensive - battery tester) and only weighs about 3.7Kg, a normal 17Ah battery weighs about six!
Only useful if you're prepared to throw away the battery that comes with it and fit a decent one!

Bought this item to start my car (chrysler voyger big car) with a bad battery started it first time every time,and still had enough power to pump tyres up.

Rubbish
