5.0 out of 5 stars 737 Add-on (FS9 - 2004) 28 Mar. 2014

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Where to start? Well it's a bit old now and there is a newer more accurate and updated version of this for FSX. However as I still run FS9, and enjoy this version, as do many other people, I'll talk about this. I've been in a professional 737 motion simulator and I have to say, apart from the motion and the pressure of the flight controls, compared to mine. I could recognize and identify everything I looked at. This is serious modelling.

Next, this is for the enthusiast who wants more than a 'quick flight'. It comes with two manuals, so, if you haven't used FMCs/CDUs, and Jets before, be prepared for a sharp learning curve. The first manual of 79 pages is dedicated to explaining the FMC and CDU. This is the heart of planned and automated flight. Whilst all of the functions are not modelled, there's certainly enough to keep you occupied.
The second of 41 pages deals with Starting Off, Using PMDG in FS and the Operation of the PMDG 737 800/900.

Unfortunately, there's just too much in these manuals to write about here, so I'll limit my next bit to a few points I both like and dislike.

The modelling - It looks great!, it comes with various liveries including, Continental and Delta and the non and the winglet variants.
The 3D cockpit, again modelled very well, looks great, however some of the hotspots,(turning controls +/- etc.), can be a bit difficult to find.
The PDF/ND can be set to two views. 1. PFD and ND Mixed, 2. PFD and ND separate. (which I like)
The animation of the stairs - brilliant!
The Manuals, well written will lots of photos.
The Aircraft Load Manager.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 7 Oct. 2010

Perhaps the biggest lottery in computer software concerns flight simulator add-ons. How often have you brought one which either refused to start or was an ill-disguised copy of the aircraft that arrive with MSFS? PMDG seems to be the exception and their 737 800/900 must be as close as it is possible to get to the real thing. However, it is a simulator and not a game or toy and is accordingly more complicated than most of its rivals. The aircraft is a pleasure to fly although setting up the systems prior to departure takes a little study. The FMC is true to the prototype - and also requires a litle study - although you can fly the aircraft without it, using instead the MSFS route system.
Drawbacks? Only one and that it the lack of a printed manual. PMDG do provide a printed booklet for the FMC but for the rest, the irritatingly cumbersome pdf - which runs to several hundred pages - method is provided. I would prefer PMDG to provide a comprehensive printed book and add £5 to the cost of the package.
However, that is a relatively small point and if you want to know what it is like to fly and navigate the real thing, then this is the add-on for you. Almost certainly the best there is and light years ahead of the comnpetition.

4.0 out of 5 stars The backbone of fs add-ons 17 Jun. 2008

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This is a very effective and enjoyable expansion for the 600/700NG release. It is, essentially, the same game, but with far better functionality. As mentioned, many new features have been added to this software including the 'clickable' virtual cockpit, which I personally beleive is essential when flying in 3D.

There is also more freedom with the display system; the user can now choose different panel configurations to give the flight that personalised touch.

My only problem with the software as a whole is the fact that PMDG could have made the virtual panels fully 3D, much like the 747 Queen of the skies add-on they made in 2005. Also, despite being visually very realistic, the cockpit does not resemble massivley what a 737NG looks like in real life e.g. blue chunky yoke instead of black and slim. Also, for some reason the textures for the flightdeck are blue instead of grey (if you have fsx, compare the cockpit if the 737-800 there with the PMDG cockpit, you'll know what I mean).

Setting this aside, this is a fantastic product for flight sim, definitely get it!
