Killer Mike got his formal introduction to the industry when he first appeared on the Outkast single "The Whole World" for which he won a Grammy. Mike then signed to Outkast's Aquemini label, which was distributed by Columbia Records, and in 2003 released his debut album, "Monster" which went Gold. After a short stay at Big Boi’s label, Purple Ribbon/Virgin, ... Read more in Amazon's Killer Mike Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Bigga Banga 4 July 2011
Format:Audio CD
Fierce lyrics and hardcore beats have defined the Pledge series and nothing is changed here. The difference with the third and final instalment in the series is that it has a decidedly more commercial appeal. With a feature list that includes T.I., Big Boi, Gucci Mane & Young Jeezy, Bigga is out to make an impression on the charts.

Long time fans however need not fear that Killer Mike has gone soft as he still maintains that militant persona that we have gotten used to. He rethreads familiar grounds by supplying solid sequels to two classic records from the previous instalments and, yes, he names names. He tackles police brutality on Burn, motivates us on Follow Your Dreams and still finds time to party with Jeezy & Gucci on Go Out On The Town and Animal. There is even room to spoil his Lady on Everything which works well despite the overused sample.

Despite the multitude of topics on the album the album is still fairly compact, clocking in at less than an hour. It can sound all over the place at times but Mike is comfortable whether he is speaking on infidelity or taking aim at vain and abusive church ministers.

Pl3dge is a fitting finale to the series and is a good indicator of what to expect from Mike in the future. My only gripe with it is the fact that there isn't enough of the storytelling that Mike has become renowned for. That is a minor imperfection in what is otherwise a great album

4.0 out of 5 stars American Life 22 May 2011
By Markus Rauchenwald - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
A protégé of Atlanta's Outkast, this Michael's flow is so clear, it comes across conversationally in its best moments, like a Cornel West siding emphatically with the poor and disenfranchised. But it's a mean funk: "The banks got bailed out/but we still suffering/so I got a gun/'cause I done had enough of them". Politically and socially it's so on top of things that you start to feel like one encore too many when the album switches from brilliant to pretty good after track five. The hooks become the problem, the lines his inspiration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fire 28 May 2011

Best album from any southern artist this year period. Maybe the best album by any hip-hop artist this year too. The only thing near this is IDK. The sound is better than his previous Pledge albums which were already very good but this is basically a classic. Killer found the perfect balance of his usual hard banging and flowing tracks with other songs that are just commercial enough to give him some light with all the BS artist without compromising his signature sound. Bang Bang Bang, this will be playing in my deck for a long time to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4th solo is another nice 4 star effort 12 Dec 2012
By G$ - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Killer Mike returns with his 4th real solo album, and it's been 2 years and 10 months since his last solo. Not as good as his previous effort (which was his best album), it's about equal with his debut and a pretty nice 4 star release. He has been a part of other albums through the years and more recently (his "Underground Atlanta" in summer of '09 was more of a compilation of Atlanta/southern rappers, with Killer Mike only on a few of the tracks) and his "Ghetto Extraordinaire" was finally shelved backed in `05/'06 never to be released. Since first coming on the scene with Outkast, he has continued to drop some nice street rap and harder type songs that aren't necessarily radio-friendly, but are very good and consistent. Here is where I'd rank it compared to his other solos:

3/03 --- "Monster" --- 4 stars
2006 --- "I Pledge Allegience to the Grind" --- low 4 stars
7/08 --- "I Pledge Allegience to the Grind 2" --- 4.5/5 stars
5/12 --- "R.A.P. Music" --- haven't listened to yet

As far as this one goes, you get 14 songs; 1 is almost classic material, you get 6 that are average and 7 that are good, but unfortunately that's it, there aren't too many of those that are real good songs. Guests are somewhat heavy on this one, on 10 of the 14 songs; rapping on 6 and doing the chorus on 4 others. Production is alright, with a few bright spots. Sweatbox Productions do 4 songs, Smiff & Cash and No ID each do 2, Tha Bizness, Beat Bullies, Raz, DJ Speedy, Zone Beats, Flying Lotus all do 1 song. Though not his best work, it's still a good one to check out.

#1 - 9 (nice beat)
#2 - 8.5 (f/ Rock D --- good beat)
#3 - 8.5 (good beat)
#4 - 8 (f/ T.I.)
#5 - 9.5 (Great beat, best song on here)
#6 - 9 (f/ Young Jeezy & Will Fargo --- nice beat)
#7 - 7.5 (f/ Asia Bryant)
#8 - 7.5 (f/ Rock D, Twista, Cutty)
#9 - 7.5 (f/ Gucci Mane & Rock D)
#11 - 8
#12 - 8 (f/ Myesa - a more positive song)
#13 - 7.5 (f/ Ray Rush)
#14 - 8/7.5 (f/ Rock D & Mitchelle'l Sium)
#15 - 8 (f/ Big Boi of Outkast & T.I.)
