Really good product 26 Nov. 2013

The CDJ 850 is an awesome player! I upgraded from a small $90 Numark controller and this is a lot to take in. One CDJ alone is bigger than my entire old set up. I use Virtual DJ and I was worried about compatability but you just plug in the USB cord, press "PC" and it's ready to go. The only major issue I had was that the CDJ 850 doesn't have 3 cue point buttons like the more expensive versions. Luckily you can configure the buttons for the CDJ in your DJ program on the computer so I made some cue points with buttons I don't use. It let's you connect through either laptop via USB A to B cable, USB flash drive, or CDs but nobody uses CDs anymore. The jog wheel is big and grippy but it chugs a little when you scratch because it has a little weight. It has a heavy, delay feeling to it which effects playback but I think I've adjusted to it. The reverse button is a cool feature because you can make clean versions of songs on the fly if you need to. Reverse makes a cool effect and you can loop and reverse songs completely. I can tell this was designed to be used with flash drives. There are a lot of features that can't be used when you plug into a laptop such as the browse and tag list button at the top of the unit. The sound wave of tracks are not displayed on the unit when using DJ software which isn't a big deal but still a nice touch. Also cue points don't light up or register on the small screen in the middle of the jog wheel. Overall it's a great product. Kind of expensive in my opinion but after using it, I can't complain. A lot of buttons/features I can't use plugging into a laptop but it looks professional and does what I need it to.

Almost perfect 13 Jun. 2013

I would give this a 4.5 Stars only because I've used the CDJ 2000 and the jog wheel feels a little better (but not worth the price difference). It's perfect for DJ's using time coded CD's (i.e. Serato). If you are using DJ Software, you don't need 50% of the functions on this unit. It's provides a great backup (with USB sticks) if your laptop ever fails. Looks great & professional, but doesn't feel durable so you definitely need to get cases for it if you are moving it around. I wish pioneer would work with Serato and make a controller unit (no CD) with this platter size at a lower price point, because I don't know any DJ's that actually use CD's anymore.

Up Up Up with 850 5 Jun. 2014
By Pat Duncan - Published on Amazon.com
dont belive the hype about all the bugs and everything mine work fantastic and the bug i hear of the most is the auto beatloop but being a DJ if you cant activate manual Loops in time maybe time for a little more practice before buying these.I read someone saying about the Display screen being crap, but that person also states they have CDJ 2000's so yeh of course it looks worse next to them. But i am totally blown a way comming from CDJ and VYNAL background the navigation is beautyfull clear and helps you mix tracks fast with ease,, My only real complaint would have to be with rekordbox the software itself is a bit tricky and doesnt keep same folder structure (wants you to maker playlists) this doesnt work for me so i just leave off the software and put usb flashdrive with same folder structure im used too and its plays like a dream.Hope this helps i very much recomend these professional tables at a good price like driving a new car if you never owned pioneer before.
