About the Author

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organization in the world. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farmsm in laboratories, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. It also works on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds, and other "pests", and the abuse of backyard dogs. PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, outreach, and protest campaigns. Starza Kolman is the special assistant for peta2. She went veg in middle school after being forced to take Hunter's Education. She is known for her saucy attitude and uncanny ability to create culinary masterpieces without actually cooking. Marta Holmberg is the senior street team coordinator for peta1. She's been a vegetarian since she was four years old and went vegan in college. A Cali girl at heart, she now lives in Norfolk, VA, where she loves to stumble across delicious new products that just happen to be vegan. For more information on going vegan, please visit peta2.com.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is a terrible cookbook... 30 Dec 2011
Format:Paperback
... I mean seriously, it's terrible. I gave it a try, but no tweaking or anything would save half of this stuff and that's mainly because you're not actually cooking. All of the recipes are targeted at vegan "students", like myself, and from that they need to be cheap, simple and easy - this they achieve* but they are not healthy at all.
If I were to advise someone considering buying this I would tell them to just go buy "Please Don't Feed The Bears" instead, it's equally simple but it's got the added bonus of actually being a decent cookbook full of healthy and interesting recipes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and simple to follow 22 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback
The PETA Vegan College Cookbook is a great and fun way to go vegan, it is filled with very simple to follow recipies that is great for the student on a budget and also for anybody that is trying to go vegan, or just wanting to eat healthy, but does not have much time to slave over a stove!
Even if you are not a vegan I am sure that you will be able to find plenty of mouth watering recipies in this book to break your daily routine!
all you need is a microwave and you are set for the hundreds of great and tasty recipies listed, and best of all you will not have to spend hours making any of them:)
Eventhough this book is aimed at the north american public, most of the ingredients caan be purchased in Europe, on the recipies where you can not get the ingredients it is always possible to improvise.

1.0 out of 5 stars Microwaves Only! 15 Jun 2010
By G. Hall
Format:Paperback
This is truly disappointing. At no point until I read the foreward did it mention that this book only contains microwave recipes. I do not have a microwave and don't intend to get one. I will be returning this book. The product description on the Amazon page talks about herbs and gardening tips. None of those. The recipes all go along the lines of "Nuke for 45 seconds." This may suit some people and I'm sure it is useful for some people but it should be pointed out to potential readers BEFORE they order the book in the product description.

5.0 out of 5 stars Student Review! 31 Oct 2012
Format:Paperback
Living on a student loan, outside of London, no time to slave over a stove all the time, or even try to argue with my housemates over my diet compared to theirs...This book is perfect to those who need to whip up easy cheap budget vegan food. It is NOT however, massive amounts of meals that involve lots of ingredients, and an oven etc. Seriously perfect for students! And anyone complaining about not having dairy free cream cheese etc that is talks about in the book, Tescos have a full `free from' range, which is actually cheaper than regular dairy products! - From a veggie nearly vegan ;)

A Kid's Review
Format:Paperback
I know students are young and don't have much time to spend cooking but
these recipes are one more unhealthy than the other.
Terrible...
You could have AT LEAST added a section on "healthy foods" and/or
healthy snacks. I eat TONS of fruits, what' s easier than that to eat ?
A good paragraph on why and how to make a whole meal of fruits once a day
or once a week would have been great.
Sorry, i bought it expecting fast but still quite healthy recipes
but i've found none, none that i would make.
very disappointing..

and what's with all that promotion of tofu and soy products by the way???
I NEVER eat them and i'm fully vegan...
