I've been through more expensive internal PCI cards than you can shake a stick at. All failed after a short while and all were were a waste of money.

So when I saw this item being offered for so little money I laughed but decided to give it a try anyway. I'm still laughing but with pure pleasure. This has to be the best value Freeview tuner anywhere.

The main caution for any prospective buyer to be aware of is that, like all these Freeview terrestrial tuners, they require a good strong signal. To that end, the supplied wire aerial and pretty pointless unless you are living in plain sight of a transmitter. Otherwise you do need a feed from a rooftop aerial leading to your computer ... there is a socket on the back of the Peak stick to take a conventional TV coax plug.

In the lounge, where my roof aerial feed enters the property, I was able to receive 66 channels (TV & Radio) and in my computer room which is fed by a long TV extension, the signal had dropped enough to 'only' provide 55 channels. That's quite enough to keep me entertained.

The provided software is simple and easy to use, although the user manual supplied on the disc is a bit basic and leaves you to figure out some of the facilities provided.

At this price, you simply can't go wrong so long as you can provide an adequate TV signal to the device. Highly recommended.

Stunning value 26 Oct 2010

I had been fighting with a Compro S350 DVB-S PCI card in the Windows MC7 HTPC I have recently built, just could not get a glitch free picture from my perfect sky dish signal. Gave up trying in the end and not wanting to throw any more money at the thing I bought the cheapest DVB-T tuner I could find, what a difference!

Ripped it from packet, discarded the table top antenna, ignored the software/driver disc, chucked the included remote back into the jiffy bag from whence it came. Plugged my ariel into the USB receiver, plugged the USB stick into my media centre. Windows searched for a few secs, installed drivers and said it was ready to go. Into the media centre software, setup a new tuner, scanned for channels (took a while) 96 channels found.

Checked picture quality, this was where I was expecting to be let down, I was very wrong. Its perfect.

Picked myself off floor and closed mouth with hand then went and ordered 2 more!

This item is not really the 203244AGPK variant. A newer model has come out and this is what is being shipped. I only realised this after opening the pack and trying it out on my linux system. It appears the chipset requires the realtek drivers that are not in kernel as of 2.6.37.

In fairness to the supplier they accepted the return even though the package was opened.

This is a very clever bit of kit and worked so easily as soon as plugged in. I hope to be able to use my laptop as a TV now whilst out camping. Very neat.

Peak DVB - T Review
As I can see my TV transmitter from the house, perhaps it was not surprising that the Peak DVB performed well in picking up stations, even with the aerial (bent wire) supplied. Read more
