Ive always enjoyed the pdc games from the beginning with each game receiving no hype but always delivering a solid game that gets better every time, so this was one game i was really looking forward to.
And have they delivered?, Oh yes they have with just a couple of things that deter the game from perfection, so i'll go over those first.
First of all the frame rate this year is a tad unpredictable in places, nothing that ruins the actual throw but when the camera pans out to show the players moving away from the board its quite choppy and not smooth at all, also while playing the power, after he had took his darts out and i was throwing, his 3 darts were still in the board! quite bizarre but i still hit 180 so it's nothing major.
With that out the way the good stuff.......
Throwing the dart is now more precise than ever and with the new players eye cam it's the best yet, you will have no problems to either pick up and play or dive into a full season.
Graphics are nothing spectacular but they get the job done well, it's got a great choice of all the best players and all the new additions are very welcome (Great to see mervyn king) and the pro's look like who they should (Check out simon whitlock) and all the signature throws are there too but it's the little touches that really make all the difference.
For instance when you or the pro's get to a checkout they stop, look to the side and then nod to acknowledge what they need to throw, and if they having a bad run or need a big finish they stop to compose themselves so that really makes things realistic.
However for me this year what really brings this game alive is the absolutely incredible and lifelike commentary from the well known tv team of sid waddell and john gwynne, It's funny realistic and gels well between the two, They chat amongst themselves and it's so good it puts me off my throw lol. I threw a nine darter and they both went completely balmy and it was just like watching it live, not to mention absolutely hilarious!
I would say it's the best commentary ive heard in a sports game since peter alliss and alex hay from the actua golf series many years back and thats high praise! Brilliant.
So if you fancy taking on the power or love darts give this a go you will not regret it, Sure it has some quirks but it doesn't spoil the gameplay in any way.
Sublime game and worthy of five big stars, Wonderful.
