PCTV Systems is part of Hauppauge, which has made TV cards for many years. In fact, the first thing I think of with Hauppauge is TV cards; the second thing I think of is hours of fun installing drivers, finding patches on their site, and searching the web for tips to solve problems.

The Broadway 2T partially avoids such hassles, because you simply connect it to your home network, attach a connection to a rooftop aerial (don't bother with the supplied indoor aerial which is unlikely to be strong enough in the UK), and view in the browser from any device on the network, or if you set up port-forwarding, any device on the internet.

Sounds good, and it does work. I was soon watching on iPhone, iPad and PC in a browser, no software installation required.

While the browser view is fine if you know what you want to watch, there is no EPG (Electronic Program Guide) in the browser, nor the ability to pause or record TV.

For that you need the Windows-only software which comes on a CD. I installed this, could not find any channels, and was back in the familiar world of hunting for support. It turns that that if you have firmware higher than 2.5, you need a patch for the TV Center application before it will find the channels.

Once done, I was away; but the TV Center is still pretty poor.

In mitigation, there is a driver for the Windows Media Center included, so you can use that instead (though you still need the patch).

You might prefer to forget the PC software though and just use the browser. The unit may be worth it just for that; though why doesn't PCTV Systems improve the browser app to include EPG?

And what are those 3 USB ports for, marked "For future use"?

I purchased this product in November 2012. I wanted a device that would replace having to use the online options like BBC iPlayer or TVCatchup. As I do not have a very fast Internet connection, I did not want to waste bandwidth using such services. I also considered an Elgato device, but the Broadway won over because of the fact that you can use a browser to view the TV, rather than a dedicated app (as for the Elgato). You can use a dedicated iOS app to access the Broadway, if necessary.

It is relatively easy to connect up all the cables, and set up.

The firmware shipped with the Broadway is v1 and is very rough and ready. Thankfully, you can go to the PCTV Systems website and download the latest firmware (v3+) which dramatically improves the functionality of the Broadway.

Positives:
- The picture is excellent, even when set to a 'low' rate.
- The firmware is regularly updated with new features and performance improvements
- Customer support is pretty good. There are gaps in the manual and CS provided me with the answers.

Some caveats:
- To add a USB drive for recording or storing EPG data, you need to plug it in when the Broadway is off. The firmware does not currently support 'hot plug and play'. This took me a while to realise and CS confirmed this to me.
- If you use the wireless, be aware that it only uses the 2.4GHz band - there is no 5GHz option.

All in all, I am very pleased with this product. I hope to update this review once I start using heavily the recording ability and other features. This could potentially be a good backup or replacement for a Slingbox or a PVR.

I received the product this morning, powered it up. From my iPad 2 I browser (Safari)I was able to scan all my Freeview channels from the unit and in under 10 mins started watching Live Freeview TV. Once installed I was able to move around the house with Live Freeview TV running from my iPad 2 anywhere. This product is easy to install, picture quality is great and works out of the box.
I am also now using the same browser link on my iPhone 4 with 3G to watch Freeview on the move.
Going to buy an S-Video cable to hook up my Satellite box now.
