This card is fine when used in a machine that acts as a wireless client, and supports all the security you need, right up to WPA2. However, the main reason I chose this card myself was the capability it has to act as an access point through the supplied Windows software. The idea is that you can put this in your desktop machine and use it as a wireless gateway. The software user interface, the documentation and the help file are all good for the client side of things, but none of them are up to scratch for the AP functionality. It does work as an AP, and reliably enough too - once you figure out how to configure it. For what it's worth it also supports Wi-fi Protected Setup (WPS), although I've not tried that.
BUT...
When you do use it as an AP, you find that suddenly all those different security modes the card could use as a client have disappeared, and all you can now choose from are WEP or "none". This is true even with the latest driver and utility software (dated 2007). Since WEP can be broken in only a few minutes by anyone who knows how, it really is little better than "none". So the access point functionality is worthless, unless you happen to live somewhere where you can trust everyone who will ever get close enough to get a signal. But I'd rather not run the risk of anyone surfing child porn on MY internet connection, thank you very much.
