We decided to opt for this security as we have used pctools before and throught highly of them, but that has all changed with this latest offering.
First of all, the disk wouldn't even run in the computer and the software had to be downloaded from their website.
Version 8 was downloaded fine and seemed to be running fine, untill we had to reboot the system, once the reboot was completed, many windows systems sut down, such as calcuator, media player, control pannel, task manager, all not working.
Trying to restart the computer was a pain and many times shut itself down and would have major trouble rebooting.
We finally manage to uninstall this product and systems and programs returned to normal.
After looking into this on the forum on PCTools' website it a apears more people are having the same trouble, and no solution in sight.
I would not touch another PCtools product and would not recomend them to a single person.

We all need it -that's for sure! Internet Security is part and parcel of every freelancer, home worker and home business. With all the tools and systems on the market today it can be quite a muddle sifting through the requirements, trying to figure out what they offer and most importantly if they're easy to use!

So iHubbub Reviewer, Rosalind Brookman went undercover to review PC Tools Internet Security. Treat yourself to this value for money software.

The installation process for PC Tools Internet Security (Version 9.0) is quick, doesn't ask unintelligible questions and is clear about the process all the way through. There are 3 different types of scan; the full scan, the custom scan where you can ask it to look at particular areas, and the IntelliScan which heads straight to specific areas of risk. There is a tab where you can see the history of the activity PC Tools has taken, including the scans it has run and the viruses it has found.

The IntelliGuard system watches over your computer for all kinds of threats; it covers your email and any attachments received, websites you visit (it will warn you if it detects a problem with any site before you can open it), files you get sent etc., and you can turn all the filters on and off independently.

One of the most useful additions to the programme is the Scam Protection - this monitors websites that you might potentially come across whilst looking for home working jobs. There are many scams associated with home working, and this programme means that these imposter sites should be weeded out before they can rip you off. It works by monitoring keyword and website activity to determine whether the site is legitimate. If it thinks it is an untrustworthy website it will flag this up to ensure you don't lose personal or financial information. Read the full review on iHubbub.

Always ready with a cheery "Evening all", whatever the time of day, or night, P.C.Tool, our local community liaison officer, is a welcome sight on our streets. A good old-fashioned bobby, he can often be spotted secretly smoking his pipe underneath the railway arch or playfully cuffing some errant schoolchildren around the back of the head. P.C.Tool's advice on security matters is always pithy and to the point. It was he who advised me that splinters of glass imbedded into the top of our garden wall would make an excellent burglar deterrent. When I asked him if this perhaps posed a risk of serious injury, or even bleeding to death, his cheery advice was to make sure that I was wearing thick gloves when I installed it. It will be a sad day for us all when the P.C. Tools of this world are replaced by university graduates who cannot survive without their computers.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
The product is a doddle to install and configure, but I have a problem with the terminology used to describe the licence key you have to enter. In some places, the licence key is shown as 'Activation Code'. Now obviously I was able to work out that this was a bit of a typo having used computers for the last twenty years or so (and I was also a technical writer for 13 of those years). But if a person was new to computing, they would probably be confused by this difference.

The software itself is very good, and you have a great deal of control over various components installed by the product. The anti-virus, firewall and malware support is excellent, and it catches problems very quickly, such as applications trying to perform unauthorised actions. The scans the software runs are very in-depth, and even shows you the threat level to your PC (from low to high; low being a forgotten cookie in your internet application folders, a high being a trojan hijack attempt on your PC). The software is very good value for money as it allows you to protect three PCs for a whole year. I am very confident that the software finds and eliminates all threats on your PC, but it comes at a price in performance, after having the software installed for a week or so.

Whenever the software runs a scan, downloads and installs new definitions, it seems to eat up about 30% of my PCs processing power. For some people, this may not be a problem, but, as a web developer, for me it is a big problem. Losing 30% of a 3Ghz PC's processing power whilst the application is going about its business is a bit much for me.

The software is technicall very good, and a very good price for the number of PCs you can protect, but I could only recommend to you if you can cope with losing 30% of your PC's processor power whilst it's performing its work.
