‘Lay low and grow,’ is the motto of the waifs of Duldred Hall. The only way to escape a life of drudgery is to reach the magical height of 5 thighs 10 oggits. But Master Jeopardine is determined to ‘feed them little and keep them small.’ When the master’s methods grow more sinister the waifs must face their doubts. What is hidden in the Bone Room? Why is Rook's Parlour locked?
A new waif arrives and the fight for survival begins. But with him comes more mystery: who is Oy?

More About the Author

Tree Talk was my first book. I wrote it because of human ego-driven planet wrecking. I wanted to give a voice to the innocent bystanders: the plants and animals.

Oy Yew is my second book. It's the first in a planned fantasy trilogy. I wrote it because I wanted to make magic. The paper version is out soon. Part 2 will be published later this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars A satisfying read 17 Aug 2013
This is a great book. Oy Yew caught me from the first page. There is something utterly vibrant and compelling about Ana Salote's writing. The characters are enigmatic and intriguing, especially Oy, who is a most original and subtle hero; he touched my heart. The story encapsulates, what is for me, one of the best themes: freedom from slavery and convention. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great story. 2 Jun 2013
By Koala
Format:Kindle Edition
I've just finished reading this with my nine-year-old daughter and have to say that we both thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were all original, as was the world in which they lived. The story held my daughter's interest and I will be going back to reread the bits that she read on her own because I felt quite annoyed at missing them! The number of characters sometimes confused her, but she loved the humour and the descriptions of people and places. All in all, a really great read for older children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oy Yew 3 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved this book & couldn't put it down. It was gripping from start to finish & my only disappointment was that it ended. Thank you, Ana, for such a clever & well written book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary and original 28 Oct 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this book some time ago and have only just had time to sit down and read it. I was engrossed in this grim but vibrantly delineated world almost immediately. ana salote has an extraordinary and original voice, her characters are rounded and instantly recognisable ( I had no trouble keeping track of any of them even though the cast is quite large). The main protagonist is a hero, and as his story unfolds so does his character, and what a lovable, brave, charismatic creature he is. The world of the story is just alien enough to keep you extremely entertained by its eccentricity, anything could happen and that lends an incredible suspense to the whole narrative - the pace doesn't let up - and it is also familiar enough to ring absolutely true. I'd recommend this book to any child of 8 or over - I think ana is a fabulously original voice, her imagery and descriptions are tangible - and no clichés here. Her books should available in every book shop. Fabulous.
