If like me you're trying to avoid splashing out a load of money on one of the big name atlases then look elsewhere. This is a school atlas - simple maps, plenty of colour info charts on everything from tourism to politics etc. The fact that the whole of Asia and the Far East is printed on a double A4 page spread should give you an indication of how little actual detail there is... you have been warned!!

This is a very clear and informative atlas which is very well laid out. It has a comprehensive mixture of maps, graphics and social/economic data. The data are represented in charts, symbols and graphs, and on maps which make them easily to understand.
I particularly like the representation of separate physical and political maps, ie showing the UK counties clearly and, also, the countries of most continents in clear political maps as well as the physical area equivalent.
The country data files will be particularly useful for human geography as will the country data sets together with the pages on world population, development and aid. Physical geography is also well featured with, eg climatic charts world biomes and plate tectonics. It also incluses a useful geology map of the UK.
It is always good to see a set of flags for countries, always useful-knowledge for quiz shows!

Atlases for adults can give too much information or the information given needs instructions to follow. The Oxford School Atlas shows clearly the countries of the world, the counties of Britain and some interesting information all clearly presented and easy to follow. It's great.
