These exciting new TreeTops Myths and Legends are guaranteed to appeal to all your junior readers - whatever their cultural background, gender or enthusiasms. These are the oldest and most enduring stories in the world, retold by leading contemporary children's authors to bring out all of the action, drama, humour and depth of the original stories in a way that makes them as exciting and meaningful today as ever.

The strand is comprised of 24 books, telling a total of around 65 traditional stories from around the world. All of the stories are fully illustrated with stunning, vibrant images. The stories are carefully levelled, making them accessible to the average 7-11 year old reader. A thought-provoking letter from the author explains something about the background of the stories and the process of writing or retelling them. The letter also encourages the reader to make links between stories in a collection - prompting a fascinating investigation of the similarities and differences between stories that have evolved from different cultures around the world. The stories are ideal for making links to other areas of curriculum.
Books contain inside cover notes to support children in their reading. Help with childrens reading development is also available at www.oxfordowl.co.uk.

More About the Author

I was born and brought up in London and still live there. As you'll see from the list of books available here, I keep myself busy! I've written poetry and picture books, short and long fiction and educational books and plays. Highlights for 2013 include STORIES OF WORLD WAR ONE (Orchard), an anthology of stories by some of today's top children's writers that I've edited; MY BROTHER'S KEEPER (A&C Black), a story about the First World War I've written with my son Tom; and some more books in the brilliant OUP Project X reading scheme. I also review for The Guardian and do school visits - and you can find me on Facebook and Twitter (@tbradman). I also have a website - www.tonybradman.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book for 8 year old football nut! 7 Jun 2013
By Han
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My 8yr old son is obsessed with football. I purchased this book for his birthday (8th). He loves it. He is able to read it independently and it has given him lots to discuss. He followed it up by looking up clips of Pele on YouTube! This book has been in the house for a few weeks and has quickly become one of his favourites that he returns to again and again. The text is accessible and interesting. Just what I have come to expect and love about Oxford Reading Tree books. Well worth the money - I'm off to look for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for reluctent reader 1 Aug 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have a 7 yr old who, although is capable of reading fluently is reluctent to pick up a book on his own and read it by himself. We always get him to read to us but this book really got him interested, I actually walked into bedroom one morning and found him curled up with it. He is mad about sport and knew about Pele - my husband's influence , so this was a hit. Didn't feel like a reading tree book so he didn't associate it with school work....wellworth a look
