Inspiring real-life stories from around the world

Product Description

TreeTops True Stories are exciting, motivating non-fiction books which will broaden your pupils' reading experience. They are part of a structured reading programme for juniors. This is the gripping narrative of Sir Ranulph Fiennes' journey across the frozen-wastes of Antarctica with his companion Dr Mike Stroud. They are the first to attempt a walk across this vast landmass with no rescuers nearby, and pulling heavily-loaded sleds behind them. Two optimistic men embark on a journey of discovery about themselves and each other as much as the inhospitable landscape around them. The journey is fraught with danger, and the men are soon demoralised and beginning to hate each other. Anna Perera accurately recounts the tensions and dramas on their journey, and this text is supported by stunning photography and artwork. This book is also available as part of a mixed pack of 6 different books or a class pack of 36 books of the same Oxford Reading Tree stage. Each book pack comes with a free copy of invaluable teaching notes.

Five Star Book 2 Sep 2003
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is a smashing little book recounting the true story of Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Dr. Mike Stroud's attempt to cross the Antartic without dogs and rescue planes. And written in a way that made me feel Anna Perera was suffering the same cold, frostbite and hunger that they did. My son doesn't enjoy reading but this book hooked him from the first page. With great photos, facts and illustrations, my daughter also found it a joy to read. I wish there were more adventure stories like it.
