Product Description

Product Description

The third edition of the Oxford-Paravia Italian Dictionary is the most complete and up-to-date Italian dictionary available, now with a colour design and layout. With over 300,000 words and phrases, and 450,000 translations, and packed full of grammatical and usage information for both languages, it is the most authoritative Italian bilingual dictionary available. Developed through consultation with academic advisors, it has been compiled using the latest technology to search millions of words of web-based text identifying the most recent additions to Italian and English, and changes in usage. Hundreds of new words and updated translations have been added in both Italian and English, covering subjects from politics and industry to techology and ecology. Additionally, the 7,000 most frequently used words in Italian are highlighted to help you learn essential vocabulary. New and updated cultural notes provide lively and interesting information on life in the Italian-speaking and English-speaking worlds. This edition also includes an extensive guide to correspondence, which includes sample letters, emails, CVs, and help with text messaging. There are notes throughout the A-Z text to warn of sensitive vocabulary, to alert you to key differences between Italian and English, and to show how words such as with and before are used in different contexts. This edition retains such popular features as quick-reference verb tables, and lists of vocabulary on topics such as seasons, rivers, and sports. It is an indespensible reference tool for all serious students of Italian at university level and beyond, and for those who need an authoritative and comprehensive guide to Italian. This dictionary includes 12 months' access* to Oxford's premium Italian / English online dictionary service, Oxford Language Dictionaries Online, so you can find accurate translations and extra resources wherever you are. The site is regularly updated with the latest new words and meanings from Oxford's modern languages research programme, the Oxford Languages Tracker. You can also hear audio pronunciations and improve your language skills with online cultural notes, guides to writing, and much more. *Terms and conditions apply; please see www.oxforddictionaries.com/access for information.

This dictionary is excellent for me being somewhat longsighted. The print is larger than other dictionaries I have had and the 'words' are in blue which contrast beautifully with the black explanations. If I had to criticize it at all I would say that I would have preferred a dictionary that was less thick and was somewhat larger in format as it tends not to stay open very well on the table, but that is being ultra critical perhaps.
I am very happy with this dictionary and have no problem recommending it.

This is more than just a dictionary, it's the entire Rosetta Stone in a book.
I was expecting just an English and Italian translation but it has everything you need know to become fluent in the language.
It goes into deep detail about how to pronounce the words, understand the verbs, nouns and pronouns etc.
It even has articles near the back of the book in both languages to help you understand the sentence structure.
Don't waste hundreds of pounds on the Rosetta Stone, just get this.
This book is one of the rare mega bargains which should not be missed.
