Kate Ivory and her partner Jon have reached a crisis point in their relationship. He wants them to buy a house together, get married and have children. Kate isn't so sure. She certainly doesn't want to turn into someone like her friend Emma who is as disorganised and child-ridden as ever. It is one of Emma's children - Sam - who gets Kate involved in her latest mystery.
Animal rights activists are causing a problem for the research lab where Sam is working temporarily and he is worried about his girlfriend Kerri who will continue to work at the lab while Sam is in China for 9 months. Kate agrees to keep an eye on Kerri for him and in the process becomes involved in the strange and tragic series of events surrounding the lab employees.
The book is as much about Kate and her concerns about her relationship with Jon as it is about solving the mystery of who is behind the bombs, threatening phone calls and, ultimately, murders which afflict the staff of the lab. But it is still an interesting and well written book with believable characters and some insight into the actions of animal rights groups. I felt the book could have done with more emphasis on the mystery but that said it was still worth reading and I enjoyed it.
