Oxford Knot,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oxford Knot (Paperback)
Picked up this crime book purly for the title - had Oxford in it. The background to the plot is excellent inticing you to read on and descover more about the lead character, novelist, Kate who's normal life is turned upsidown by a last minute book tour when she meets some ordinery yet strange fans of her books. Yet the most colourful character has to be Devlin Hayle, a fellow writer, touring with her, whos life seems to be in jepody right from the start. The book is slow paced to begin with yet an excellent action packed crime from about half way through. The plot is origonal and Stallwood's very unique writing really capture the imagination. A very enjoying read if you stick with it and towards the end will have you hooked!

I have recently become a fan of Veronica Stallwood and found Oxford Knot to be a wonderful read. The 'whodunnit' becomes immaterial as the characters are so enjoyable. We are introduced firstly to the bunch treating Kate's home as their temporary base. Then we meet the marvellously comical Devlin Hayle, a fellow novelist. Not that he sets out to be comical, far from it. He takes himself very seriously and goes to any length to secure his personal comfort. We have all encountered real life characters such as this and very annoying they can be but in fiction we can simply read and laugh.
