Product Description

Review

a glorious book for readers of any age. (Daily Telegraph )

A comprehensive history of Britain and Ireland that brings to life the people, places, and events of the past, through half a million years from Boudica to Thatcher, Stonehenge to North Sea oil, in one beautifully illustrated volume. (The Guardian )

an asset to all those with history homework but also a beautifully produced reference book for the whole family (The Scotsman )

The scope of this book is as comprehensive as its title suggests, with the histories of Scotland, Wales and Ireland skilfully interwoven... a handsome, readable book which deserves a glowing recommendation. (Times Educational Supplement )

It is remarkably well pitched... a splendidly wide-ranging book (School Librarian )

This comprehensive, authoritative and very readable guide to our islands' history, in one beautifully illustrated volume, rewards both the general reader as well as providing pupils with access to an excellent reference book... for pupils looking for a concise British history to aid them in their investigations, every school should have at least one copy of this British history. (History Teaching Review )

This is a super book and valid for every library. It will become a well-used resource for teachers, but especially for children whose thirst for information about our historical past needs constant quenching. (Education Review )

This is an excellent introduction to British history from Prehistory to the 21st century. Containing several illustrations per page with a clear, interesting text, it captures the essence of our history without being too academic. The content is divided into historical periods together with themes like the motor car. From the Victorian period onwards the text becomes a bit more general because the pace of change in society cannot be covered adequately in the space available. However, there is enough to interest the general reader and allow further research on specific topics.

History of Britain 9 Mar 2012
Love this book, interestingly written, not too wordy or tedious. Items set out in convenient chunks, attractive pictures. I also bought their history dictionary so that on occasion I could look up extra information.
