Product Description

Review

The information given is in a concise format, with consistent presentation that helps the readers build up their knowledge in tropical medicine... this handbook is a good source of information and its cost is not prohibitive. Dr Georg Kassianos, Travel Wise A strong point of the handbook is its range of practical protocols developed by the World Health Organization. These allow a structured approach to patient care and can be adapted to national policies and local conditions, used for easy reference, and disseminated appropriately. John Hartley, University College London Hospital, on eBMJ The handbook delivers the facts to your fingertips... if I had 425g of luggage allowance to spare... I would throw it in my rucksack! Annals of Tropical Medicine and Parasitology --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review

...a practical, well-written, pocket-sized handbook for practitioners or medical students of tropical medicien working in an area of limited resources...based on current WHO guidelines...[it] will be useful for practitioners in isolated settings. (Winnie Ooi, MD, Harvard Med School )

...this is a gem of a handbook. (Mad Mag )

4.0 out of 5 stars Very, very useful, 20 Aug 2009

I've just been away in Africa and this was the best purchase I made before I went out. It has everything you need for tropical disease from the symptoms through diagnosis and treatment. It has extensive chapters in malaria and HIV and others. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

This book is good to have if you work as a doctor in the tropics. It contains a lot of information cooked down to a minimum, just what you need to have in your pocket.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for electives in the tropics, 2 April 2009
I took this book to India on my elective. If you only take one book on your elective - take this one! It covers all of the common conditions found in the tropics in a clear and concise manner and doesn't weigh your bag down.
