Product Description

Product Description

A substantially updated and revised new edition of this reference book. It combines the talents of a group of writers who together cover the entire spectrum of subjects now referred to collectively as "criminology". From the history of the discipline and its present organization in the UK, the book goes on to deal with topics as diverse as policing, alcohol and crime, juvenile crime, crime statistics, drugs and crime, custodial and non-custodial sentences, prisons, victims, and the organization of professional crime in Britain. Altogether, it constitutes a comprehensive single volume reference and text on the subject. This book is intended for undergraduates studying criminology, the sociology of deviance, penology, criminal justice, and the history of crime; postgraduate students of criminology and socio-legal studies; and scholars and teachers of criminology and sociology.

A one stop shop!! 26 Jan 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is a well written book that I have found invaluable during my time at university. Contained within this book are detailed chapters addressing some of central issues/topics in criminology and in fact beyond!
Each chapter is written my an expert in their field, so using this book and it's biblography will greatly help you in achieving the assignment mark you deserve!

A must for anyone interested in or studying criminology 19 May 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
A vast collection of essays on different criminological subjects that covers most things on a course of study. Will also act as a good book for reference and background reading. Although it appears pricey it does cover a lot of ground and is indeed very cost effective when compared to similar books that offer not much for a similar price. The only criticism is this - if you are wanting a feminist perspective this often comes off as lacking, although in saying this it does (by this ommission) reveal the holes in criminological research that feminists are seeking to correct. Well worth adding to your collection.
