Product Description

Product Description

As ubiquitous in hospitals as stethoscopes, the Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine is a guiding star for all medical students, junior doctors and trainees. The culmination of more than 20 years' clinical experience, and containing the knowledge and insight gained by more than 15 authors, the new mini eighth edition is the definitive pocket-sized guide to today's clinical medicine. Packed with clear, clinical management advice which is practical to implement at the bed-side, the Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine is written in a clear and didactic style. With witty, esoteric asides linking medicine to everything from the classics to popular culture, all the material is presented in a way that is instantly memorable and even easier to put into practice. With extensive improvements based on reader feedback, the new eighth edition boasts even more black and white and full-colour images, which are now larger to improve their clarity and ease-of-use. Mindful of how doctors' training is constantly evolving, a new chapter on 'history and examination' explores this relevant critical skill in depth, enabling you to elicit as much information from the patient as possible. An expanded radiology chapters features improved images, and new topics are devoted to new cancers such as nosocomial infections, and further common surgical procedures. The references have been thoroughly overhauled with 'key references' identifying the best places to start when researching the subject, and all references are fully accessible via the supporting website. Now available in a convenient miniature format, completely unabridged, the Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine is more portable and useful than ever. Loved and trusted by generations of doctors, it is a reassuring beacon of wisdom, knowledge and skills, that is forever in your sights.

This book is great! It has ALL the content of the OHCM, but it fits in my back pocket! In my other pocket is the Pocket Prescriber bookPocket Prescriber 2007-8 (Hodder Arnold Publication).

I'm in my 5th year at HYMS, where we are classed as practise-FY1s and these two books are all I need on the wards... and they both fit into my pockets... leaving my hands free for everything else (pen, spare pen, steth, pen torch, notes, drugs chart, order forms etc etc)!

My eyesight is 20/20 and I have no problems reading it.

Very highly recommended for nights on take for those of us who don't do PDAs or Apps! Fits nicely in your pocket. Note to the over 40's though.. the typeface is tiny.

great all rounder 1 Sep 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is a great all rounder with plenty of useful things to keep you going on the wards. If you're new to the hospital environment the section at the beginning with medical abbreviations will be useful. It is clearly laid out, with sections referring to the various areas of medicine (cardiology, urology etc). The mini version is great because it fits in your pocket but definitely not for the poor sighted - it is a truly minute book with tiny text. As long as that doesn't bother you - it's a winner.
