This book is great for Urdu speakers who want to look up English words and get translations and contextual sentences. I didn't feel it was at all useful if you don't already speak Urdu, especially as all the blurb and info is in Urdu.

This is definitely my favourite English-Urdu dictionary. Speaking from my point of view (English-speaking learner of Urdu), this dictionary is very useful to take your Urdu knowledge to the next level after studying the Urdu grammar and script on a coursebook. What I like the most about it is that the entries include example sentences through which the learner can figure out how that particular word is used and what the sentence construction is like. Besides, thanks to those sentences you can go on to learn more and more words, so as to widen your vocabulary. The urdu text is not romanised here. I haven't found any comprehensive English to Romanised Urdu dictionary yet, but the coursebooks on Urdu script that you can get from Amazon (I used the Teach Yourself one, Beginner's Urdu Script (TY Beginner's Scripts), but I assume others are ok as well) are a good way to learn it and thus take full advantage of English to non-romanised Urdu dictionaries (and for that purpose a good Urdu to English dictionary always comes in handy for transliteration into romanised Urdu. I highly recommend this one: English-Urdu and Urdu-English Combined Dictionary. All of the Urdu entries in the Urdu-English half provide roman transliteration for each word written in nasta'liq).

This is an excellent book for Urdu speakers to learn English. In addition to the dictionary, there are many other sections on parts of the body, months of the year, days of the week, etc.

This is the best English/urdu dictionary I have seen in UK, it is not only a dictionary but contains many aspects of essential basic English grammar.eg. uses of got, had, have in various forms. I have told all my student friends to buy this. Would have been good if there was a CD with it for pronounciation

Id actually give it 2.5. What I didnt like about it depends on which of the two languages you are most fluent in. Im most fluent in English. The Urdu is written in smaller writing than I would have liked, Unlike English fonts its sometimes harder to see exact spellings when the Urdu type is small.

It is a paperback edition and it is definitely no suitable for the new learners of english. A lot of words not in the dictionary and I would rather get an english to english for beginners. Don' buy at all and ot even written by any authority.

I bought this thinking it would give me the Urdu translations for English words, but it is really aimed at Urdu speakers seeking definitions and usage for the English words, so not what I need.
