Kept my attention throughout,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oxford Double (Hardcover)
Never having read Ms Stallwood before, I was delighted to find a good read in Oxford Double. There is nothing very striking about this book but it was a pleasure to escape into Lucy's world and avoid 'bad' language and follow a very feasible criminal plot. For a light, easy and plausible read I'd recommend Ms Stallwood.

Interesting plot, but could have been much better developed,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oxford Double (Paperback)
As with most of Veronica Stallwood's novels, Oxford Double is light and easy to read. The plot centres around the introduction of the euro on 1st January 2002, and as such, it might have been more timely if the book had appeared in print a few months ago. That said, the idea is interesting, but poorly developed. As with earlier novels, it is only through extensive use of coincidence and the somewhat unlikely and eccentric behaviour of supporting characters that Kate Ivory is able to solve the mystery without either being murdered or involving police interest much earlier. Kate herself continues to be a contradiction between an apparently intelligent women and a total incompetent (especially when it comes to basic understanding of word processing) which I found disappointing and frustrating, given that she is a professional author. In summary, an easy book to read in a couple of hours to pass the time, but not really a riveting read.

Good Read,
By B-Woman - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Oxford Double (Paperback)
Veronica Stallwood is a writer who should be more well known in the U.S. than she is. Her books are hard to find at bookstores or the library so I resorted to buying as many of them as I could find on a recent trip to England. While not in the top tier of writers, she writes a good read. For those who like England in general and Oxford in particular, Veronica Stallwood should be on the book list.
