This book lets us grow up with Darien we see him now as a teenager. We also know where his abilities lie and we also meet a great new character in keisha and her sister the herald trainee. I throughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the next installment in the series

this was miles better than Owlflight. the story was paced better and everything linked.
The detail with which ML described Keisha's day to day life was so in depth you could imagine yourself beside her as tended sick people and animals, feel her frustration with her family and her awe when she saw the Hawkbrothers. Darien has also grown up, he is now much more mature, and confident about himself.
There is also the reappearance of Firesong and Silverfox, so we get to find out how Firesing has coped since his accident.
We also breifly reaqquaint ourselves breifly with Kerowyn and Eldan as well as the companions.
It was rivrting and i have read the book from cover to cover 3 times and i still want to read it again.

This is the second book in a new trilogy, Owlflight being the first,this is Valdemar from a different angle, the Hawkbrothers one. Mercedes Lackey draws you in from the first page and leaves you hoping that the next book is published (there's nothing worse than having to wait a year or more for the next instalment). I love the Valdemar books and found the Hawkbrothers slightly mysterious in the previous books, this one expands on the relationships with their 'bondbirds', and about how they live, work and protect the forests they live in great, great, great more please. Darian (our hero) is endearing a 'typical boy' and is a bit irritating at first, but stay with him, he's worth it. Full of the usual adventure and magic this trilogy will not disappoint (the heralds are here too). Darians journey into adulthood and magehood was great, but I found the ending a little rushed.My only question is when will there be some more Valdemar books.

This is an excellent book and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, many thanks for the prompt delivery. Mercedes Lackey is incomparable in this style of storytelling.

Talk about CINDERELLA!
I am sorry to say that this book makes me disgusted! I read almost all of Misty LAckeys books and of all the bad ones (which were almost non-existant) this one tops them all! Read more

a good book i loved the idea of the vales.
i loved the characters and the discriptions but the story line was really dull, i personly think that the good bits (characters and the distription) make up alot for the bad story... Read more
