This is a fascinating little book/project but you do need to get the proper set which includes the owl pellets. Too many Marketplace sellers don't really know their product and what you receive from them will just be the book so I would recommend checking with a seller before ordering unless you already have owl pellets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best. Gift. Evar. 12 Dec 2005
Last Christmas I gave this as a gift to my friend's 9 year old son. This Christmas I am kicking myself because I know that nothing else I can buy will compete. He couldn't wait to get dissecting and worked away at his pellet for hours without a break because he was so fascinated by all his discoveries (he got very lucky - his pellet had two skulls in). If you know a budding young scientist, you simply won't find them a better gift. This is just wonderful, and next year I am hoping to be organised enough to just buy him a load of the sterilised replacement pellets in time for Christmas. Who would have though owl puke could make a child so happy?

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't knock the tray! 30 Oct 2009
My son enjoyed this book and owl pellet set. The only comment I would make to the manufacturer is could we please have a lid on the bone sorting tray? Believe me, when dozens of tiny mouse bones get dropped on the carpet they are a devil to pick up!
