Owen the baby hippo was orphaned in floods at the time of the Asian tsunami. He was rescued and brought to a new home by Dr. Paula Kahumbo, director of Haller Park Conservation Area near Mombasa. Almost immediately he encountered Mzee, a centenarian tortoise, and they have become constant companions, wallowing together in wonderful mud and munching on vegetation surrounding their pool. The book has been created by an American child (with her father's help) and features great photographs of Owen's rescue and his new life with Mzee. It's delightful!
