Book Description

17 April 2001

A classic Ngaio Marsh novel in which she more than lives up to her reputation as a crime writer of intelligence and style.

It was planned as an act of charity: a new piano for the parish hall, an amusing play to finance the gift.

But its execution was doomed when Miss Campanula sat down to play. A chord was struck, a shot rang out and Miss Campanula was dead.

A case of sinister infatuation for the brilliant Chief Detective-Inspector Alleyn.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant classic whodunnit 23 April 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Ngaio Marsh never fails to produce a page-turner, and Overture to Death is as good as any of her works. Many of the characters walk the tightroap between being believable and being farcical, and on every page, information is casually included which turns out to be relevant to the killer's identity. A first-class read for anyone who loves classic whodunnits.

Good story line throughout, abridged version so good short read that will not take days to get through. Though written a while ago it is still fresh.

Possibly the most tedious, boring book I have ever read. With cliched characters, who we feel nothing for, cliched settings (mansions, the churchyard et al) and a rather dull detective most people will have the mystery solved within the first few chapters.
Don't waste your time and energy reading this dire novel.
