This is first book I have read of bennett's. An excellent book, he really can infuse the story with politics without it being a polemic. Characterisation is complex and engaging. Serious "thrillers" are few and far between, but this is a fast-paced story that in my opinion is well worth investigating

Thoroughly worthwhile read; thoroughly depressing. The thing I love about this author is his subtlety - he is confident and assured. This isn't his best book - The Catastrophist and Havoc in it's third year are more compelling stories - but the talent of the author still comes through sharply.

Having said that - it is pretty unrelenting in how dark it is. The grind and hopelessness of poverty, violence and crime are ingrained in every page and by the end of it I probably had had enough. So if you want to be confronted by some difficult issues and appreciate language, this book won't disappoint.
