Product Description

Shauna Gales has a lackluster love life, working hard to put
herself through nursing school. Her upper-middle-class
upbringing by educated parents influenced many of her
traits--including her unusual accent.

Miles Bowser grew up in the 'hood. His own love life leaves
much to be desired, and his college degree sure hasn't helped
him make a mark on the world, either.

A phone call brings these two eccentric souls into each
other's orbit. Mutual attraction builds before they actually
lay eyes on each other...and realize they are two different
colors.

Soon it's obvious there is something between them much deeper
than infatuation...but will their own subtle prejudices get in
the way?

4.0 out of 5 stars Not your ordinary cable hook up 1 Nov 2010

Let me start off by saying. The writer really did his/her homework with this story, There was so much detail about cable installation I really felt bad for my cable guy. There was also indept information regarding air breaks for trains which made me think that a man had written this story.

The basis of the story was sound Shauna was a single mother working in a cable call center and Miles was an installer for the cable company. I liked the fact that they had real jobs, like most of us do. There was nothing flashy about their work. I liked how they both had bias and insecurities about dating someone from another race. To me that was a very mature and real approach. In fact, perhaps this book was a little too real in some respects.

Miles went through several really brutal accidents and experiences and it was written out in detail so vivid, it had me cringing just to read it. I think the author should have scaled back on some of the gore because honestly the story really didn't need it. (again, I would not be surprised if a man wrote this story)

The other thing that could have been done better was the ending. I think Shauan and Miles really should have discussed the things they had experienced which made them split up. The things they experienced are normal things that any IR couple would experience. For example, on the job racial biases, unable to embrace your partner around other of your own race. These are real issues that beg discussing. It seemed important to the story, in my opinion, that they were brought into the light. This was one of those stories where the H/H are telling their best friends all the things they really should be saying to each other.

Even with those two concerns. I still liked the story and will read the next one in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars very rare real romance 18 May 2012

I really love this book, and the sequel "tunnel vision". First off, finally a book that does not have some billionaire hero, not every female wants some billionaire. Its nice for a romance to happen between two people with ordinary jobs, living life. This was really big for me, it made the story real, which is more romantic than a run if the mill, millionaire meets woman story. I hope to find more books like this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars I think I can run my own cable now 7 July 2011

I enjoyed this book and did enjoy reading about Miles hobbies--this man is going places with that helicopter idea. I could understand him getting tired of Shauna being indifferent toward him in public, but he got her back and then some. They both needed to communicate and stand together, to bad it took some pit bulls to bring them to their senses. As for his friend w/benefits: it was so easy for him to jump into Rita's bed and it seem as though anything she said got him excited...trust issues here. The scene of him being attacked was gory, but I figured he brought that azz chewing on himself for the way he treated Shauna. Although Shauna was in the wrong for not cancelling on Clarence for the picnic date and she really used Clarence so no one would see her and Miles together, but Miles saw though it. Clarence would have been upset at the cancellation, but she could have calmed him down by simply returning his gifts. So I figured she got what she deserved when she spotted Miles with the cougar at the picnic being overly affectionate, but he was harsh on the phone and then to admit what he was doing with Rita, especially after the sex he and Shauna had had--yeah he kinda deserved that azz chewing. I wished Miles had talked to his coworker for ignoring him and I wished his girl had told Jenny and the other co-worker off. Overall I enjoyed this one and would read it again, but skip over the cable details. Would like to read more on them in the sequel about her friend, since there was no epilogue.
