I found this a brilliant tool with clients suffering from body image problems. It is great as a self help book and even better when used in conjunction with therapy. My clients love it.

is clearly written by someone who doesn't really understand the problem and is trying to tackle it with common sense. I know Dr Veale is supposedly an expert in this field but he really is missing the point.
I, as a sufferer of body image problems/bdd have spent years fully understanding my problems and trying to overcome it. I am so close now and the solutions to such problems are not even close to being mentioned in this book.
When I have solved my problems I plan to write a book myself which does contain the answers. This book doesn't. I found it laughable things like 'face the fear and do it anyway' - this sort of thing is what people who don't understand say. This fear isn't irrational, fear and anxiety comes from a genuine fear and distress and it has to be tackled and overcome.

The point is missed 25 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback
This book is about learning to be self deluded and like everything else I've ever read about body dysmorphia disorder (BDD), it completely misses the point. It claims to provide cognitive behaviour methods that can be used by BDD sufferers to enable them to live successfully with their body image. Oh jolly dee! Thank you very much - for nothing. Why didn't I ever think of pretending that I haven't got a physical defomity then I could live a happy life? Am I stupid or what? According to the authors, BDD sufferers with a physical deformity can learn to live with it - if only they would learn to pretend. Excuse me, I must go now as the roof of my house has just fallen in. Or should I just pretend it hasn't?
