Although I'm not a sufferer myself, my other half has been suffering for about a year. I bought this book because I was finding it so difficult to understand what he was going through and didn't know the best way to support or help him through his illness. While my other half was getting some help from his GP, I felt that there was no advice on offer for me on how to live with him and behave around him.
I found this book extremely helpful. It is well laid out in sections, so it is easy to dip into and find the bits of information you need and skip the parts that are not relevant.
The explanations on different types of depression are very clear and easy to understand, with useful advice on how to overcome negative thinking and pointers on where to go to get more support and advice if you feel you need it.
I found the advice for non-sufferers who are living with a depressed person brilliant. I just wish our GP could have given me as much help as this book has.
I have bought other books on the subject but have found that this one is by far the most helpful in terms of explanations on what you are going through and in giving practical, easy to follow advice to guide you through the low points and know when you should seek professional advice.
I just wish I had bought it months ago.
