This book starts exactly where 'On The Edge' left off, the morning after Brett, Lisa and Leo's very yummy kink session. But the pleasant after glow is disturbed when the vampire police make an unexpected call at the club following the death of a local girl. Brett gives them what ever information he can in order to protect the reputation of the club, and they leave satisfied. However, when another body turns up, a young man who acted as Lisa's 'prey' the night before, the police come back looking to talk to her.
Brett soon discovers some unwelcome truths about his two lovers past. But it doesn't change his feelings for Lisa, or the ones he's developing for Leo. He gives them the benefit of the doubt, wanting to believe that they didn't do anything wrong, and goes out of his way to bring them deeper into his life and his bed.
The reappearance of Lisa and Leo's Sire leaves her a little spooked. She never had a stable relationship with him, and the fear of losing everything she has to him again, especially Brett, starts to take it's toll on her. When she discovers that Leo returned to Nicholas following their separation she lets her disappointment be known, and encourages him to leave their Sire for good.
Now that Leo has a new life and a possible future with Brett and Lisa, he finds the courage to leave Nicholas, the bastard, but their Sire is not happy and he tricks Leo into going home with him. Little does Leo know that his lover's are aware of his whereabouts and he has unintentionally put one of them in serious danger.
From the word go this book gives us a good helping of lust, steamy kink scenes, and love (if somewhat unacquainted). We get to see a lot more of Brett and Leo, watching their relationship and feelings for each other grow. It's great, I'm totally in love with this couple (sorry Lisa, but it's true) Brett's protective side and Leo's vulnerability makes me melt for them. And as much as I like Lisa, she annoys the hell out of me with the whole denying her feelings crap she has going on. She totally loves those two hunks, so why not show it. If she doesn't get a move on i might have to go show her how it's done. Anywho, we also get a little helping of action in this book, Lisa's fight scene with Nicholas is great, I cheered when she kicked his bastard ass. You go girl.
Once again Kallysten has impressed me with her sensual writing skills, and as I've said a thousand times over... I love this series. you really need to check it out for yourself.
