Review

David Dunn has written a highly challenging and yet supportive text for primary school professionals. His book surveys all the essential elements of high quality professional practice and explores, in a practical and purposeful way, strategies to help move teachers to the highest levels of professional practice. This book will be a powerful resource for personal reflection and planning, as a support for performance management and as the basis of shared professional learning and development. --John West-Burnham, Professor of Educational Leadership at St Mary s University College, Twickenham, UK

This book contains many excellent, practical, and often fun ideas to stimulate pupils learning and it is written in an encouraging and cheerful style which carries the reader along. Over many years in the classroom, David Dunn has experimented with many teaching tactics and ideas and shares his successes, and failures, with his audience. It will be a very useful reference book for all teachers, particularly those who are new to the profession. --Claire Gillies, Observer on Teachers TV 'Good to Outstanding'

This book has all the ingredients you need to deliver an outstanding lesson in the context of twenty first century education. Read it carefully, use it with rigour and then add your own passion personality and flair. The outcome will be outstanding teachers and outstanding learners --Will Ryan, Primary Education Consultant

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic and motivating 26 Aug 2011
Format:Paperback
I have been feeling very jaded and unenthusiastic about teaching just recently. This book has really fired my imagination and has encouraged me to really reflect on my teaching. It has great practical advice, in a straightforward and clear manner, giving details and information that one would like to know but are too afraid to ask in school in case you are considered an inadequate teacher!

I will be implementing many of the strategies and ideas discussed in this great book. It is a must for every teacher.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for all primary teachers and students 21 May 2011

I bought this for my daughter in her 2nd year as a student primary teacher. She has found the book an invaluable asset for her course and her placements. When on placement the teachers at the schools have ordered copies for themselves. A highly recommended book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - highly recommend 26 April 2011
Format:Paperback
With an Ofsted visit looming in the next year this book seems to have arrived just at the right time for me! Upon receipt I quickly settled to begin chapter one and before I knew where I was I found myself on chapter 5!! Such an easy, light hearted read with tons of helpful ideas. I really like how all the ideas are practical, straight forward suggestions which are easily adapted to suit the needs / age of your class. Ideas are also categorised into timescales helping you to make quick changes almost instantly while simultaneously giving excellent suggestions for improvements over a longer period of time. It is refreshing to have advice and practical ideas and resources on how to work towards becoming outstanding rather than purely theory. A very down to earth, fun read which would challenge everyone, from the trainee teacher to the Head, to think about their teaching and their kids learning. A must for all aspiring outstanding teachers.
