Simply great arcade fun,

This review is from: Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast (PC) (Video Game)
The Outrun series of games has always been the same - a simple arcade racer, in which you drive Ferrari cars (strangely all seeming to have the same maximum speed) across a number of stages, turning either left or right at the end of stage to decide the next. This version is no different: but this is by no means a bad thing.
The simple arcade-style is the best thing about Outrun 2006, reminiscent of the original games going way back to 1986; though a little before my time, I remember playing the master system version - and you can even unlock the original music to help the experience! In fact, the unlockable elements of Outrun 2006 are one of its strongest points. Every race you do, whether you complete it or not, you are rewarded with `Outrun Miles' which can then be used to buy anything from cars and their colours to extra stages. On top of this, Outrun 2006 is essentially three games in one: you can race on stages from Outrun 2, Outrun SP, and `Coast-2-Coast' which contains (my favourite) the new `Heart Attack' mode. In the latter your girlfriend (who has weird long arms) gives you increasingly bizarre challenges, the most amusing being `Hit the Ghosts', because the buggers make a funny noise when you hit `em. However, the drawback with this game is that as most of the stages are alike, it does become repetitive if played for too long a stretch. The practically non-existent physics can be irritating too, seeing you get stuck on cars as you powerslide around corners (which you do a lot of). Though despite this, Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast is a lot of fun, especially if played in short blasts - and with a steering wheel. With its multiplayer and masses of unlockable content, it has a lot of replayability: it's likely to remain on your hard-drive for quite a while.

I just got this game and having played it for a couple of days I have to say that it is pretty darn good.
The visuals are stunning, there is every Ferrari u have ever wished u could drive, the game itself is very much arcade and this reflects in the easy to learn gameplay (having said this the game is not easy, you can tweak the difficulty.) I'm a big fan of the Toca series or had been and although this game is at the opposite end of the spectrum the fact that it features accurately modelled liscenced Ferraris should be enough to interest hardcore sim fans and arcade lovers alike. Overall its just fun really, like toca but without the graft so a good one for five minute lunchbreak sessions (and the rest of the day if u get hooked like I did.)
