5.0 out of 5 stars A Comedy Classic, 16 Nov 2009

This is the first time I have used the pre-order service on this site. I ordered this a couple of months ago for my mum who wanted to get it for my dad for Christmas. I was surprised to get an email over the weekend to say it had been dispatched, and not expecting it until later in the week was pleasantly surprised to recieve it in the post this morning. I never knew if this pre-order lark was any good, but now that I know it is I will definitely be using it in the future.

For those who have never seen this programme before, then you having been missing out on what is comic gold. This comedy drama is about a dysfunctional family, father, mother and three children, along with grandad. The script is part improvisational leading to all kinds of fun. Centred around everyday life and the kind of things that children do or say and talk about this is something that if you have any kids you can instantly relate to, and if you have no children may make you consider whether indeed you ever want any. The casting is excellent and if you are like me you will love little Karen, a child that has ideas and asks the kind of questions that we asked or wanted to ask when we were little.

Included on this dvd are both series 1 and 2 as well as extended and deleted scenes, out takes, and the sketches form Comic Relief (the first time I ever came across this programme), as well as interviews with the cast and writers. If you like your comedy intelligent and more true to life you will love this, indeed I haven't found anyone who hasn't really enjoyed this. I would wholeheartedy recommend this to anyone, and as my mum has shown it will make an excellent Christmas present.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, 30 Dec 2009

Just a brilliant show. Had seen a few of the episodes on TV so decided to buy the DVDs and it was well worth it. There have been few better comedy performances than those of Daniel Roche as Ben and, particularly, Ramona Marquez as Karen (who, at just 8 years old, has just won the Best Female New-comer award at The British Comedy Awards). The Christmas special was just as good - probably going to have to get that now too.

4.0 out of 5 stars great UK comedy, 22 Dec 2009

What a pleasure this series is! I found three episodes on a plane travelling from New Zealand to Europe and, after searching NZ for the DVD, ordered it from Amazon UK. It lived up to my memory - the programme, a sticom about a family with three children ranging from 6 to 12, Grandad who is at the early stages of Alzheimers and Mum's sister who is pretentious and self absorbed, is both realistic and extremely funny and the kids are just wonderful - astonishingly 'un-actory'. Best episode - 'The Wedding'. I can't believe it doesn't appear on NZ TV. Looking forward to the third series!
